SILVER TEARS continues the story of Faye Adelheim that began in THE GOLDEN CAGE. Readers will get to see the rollercoaster arc that this extraordinary woman takes, from the flashbacks to her horrific childhood in Fjällbacka to the tumultuous ride as the top executive of a global cosmetics company that she pretty much built on her own.

The novel begins with a newsflash that will play a major role in the underlying action and tension. Two inmates escape from a prison transport and are loose in Sweden. One of them is Jack, Faye’s violent ex-husband who was convicted in the death of their young daughter, Julienne. However, only a handful of people are aware that Faye faked the girl’s death. Julienne is living in Ravi, Italy, with her mother and grandmother, the latter of whom is also presumed to be dead.

If you read THE GOLDEN CAGE, you will have seen the pattern of violent criminal behavior that a few men have forced upon Faye’s life. Her father was convicted of beating her mother to death, which was another ruse put together by a teenaged Faye. So it is probably no surprise that she chose “Revenge” as the name of her cosmetics company. SILVER TEARS is about highlighting not only the success of a powerful businesswoman whose life is built on revenge, but also her secrets and the wall that she has put up around the females in her family whom she still needs to protect from their violent pasts.

Unfortunately for Faye, her initial problems in this story do not only concern Jack’s escape, but the fact that someone is selling off shares of her company’s stock to the point that it will wrest ownership from her. Faye and her business partner, Kerstin, are scrambling to stop the leaks that are threatening to flood Revenge. This will require Faye to do some globetrotting and meet with important people to try to save the organization. Murphy’s Law is heavy on Faye’s mind as problems begin to simultaneously pile up for her. While she is in Stockholm for business meetings, she is approached by a detective who wants to speak to her about the night of her daughter’s “death.”

Faye and her company continue to be preyed upon even as loyal business partners turn on her. She is going to find out the hard way that there aren’t many people she can trust and that the nightmare is just beginning for her. Then, just when you think the situation could not get any worse, it does.

Faye is not one to be trifled with and has been able to dispatch all those male figures who preyed upon her during her lifetime. I must add that the book contains some very explicit scenes as Faye is a woman of many appetites, and multiple sexual partners is near the top of that list. This is all part of what makes her who she is, which is symbolized at the end of the novel when she purchases a sculpture featuring the bust of a woman crying tears of silver. Faye thinks she has never seen a more powerful piece of art, and SILVER TEARS is a story that readers will not soon forget.
