What is your favorite thing about your local library?

Anita
The books they have for sale for only 50 cents. I buy a lot of books, and it's always fun to find a bargain, especially if it's something I want and don't want to pay $25 - $30 at regular price.

Lynna
They keep up to date on the new books in every category and it doesn't take much time to get them on the shelves. The library's hold technique is quick and easy.

Gary
Being able to put new books on hold months before they are available.

Linda Molitor
The wide variety of material, and that it's free.

Jeanine
All of the opportunities for the reader available at no cost, while being helped by kind and knowledgeable people.

Barb
The friendliness of the staff; the variety of books/DVDs/CDs available; being able to request specific titles and renew books online... and all of this for FREE! Sorry, I can't choose just *one* favorite thing about my library :-)

Elinor
My favorite events at our library are the Spring and Fall Book Sales.

Peggy Kincaid
Browsing the new books in all genres.

Rita
Two things -- the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Also, we have a great selection since they merged with several libraries.

Wyvonna McClelland
It's only a block's walk away.

Jean
I love everything about the library. I love browsing and just looking at the books on the shelves. I love thumbing through pages of interesting books and periodicals, I love the quiet, and I love the cozy feel of just being in a library. And to think this is all free to the public!

Clare Golub
They have a retail store on the lower level that sells their used and donated books for 50 cents and up.

Lori Barnes
When they have a book sale.

Linda M. Johnson
They put up with me and my many requests. The people on staff there are fantastic. I really appreciate the book discussion they host each month, too.

Judy
You can order books and research online.

C Simar
I love to check out audiobooks for the time I spend in the car. They are very expensive to buy and usually only interest me for one listen --- also, I like to check out older books on the shelves, the ones I may have missed before.

Megan
Being able to place books on hold. I can research online, then zip in and out when they become available. I just wish I could place more on hold (there is a maximum of 10).

Teri
Not having to buy books! With the economy the way it is, this is one way I've been able save money. I'm saving at least $100.00 a month.

Sharon Haas
I love the ability to be able to request and reserve books online and then get an e-mail when they are ready for me!

Edna King-Miller
It's full of books I haven't read yet. I find some author new to me every week, or books by a favorite author that I haven't read. My library is like my second home. After I retired 11 years ago, I began volunteering every week. My favorite thing? I would say the memories of the people I worked with in the '90s as a staff member.

Mary
I appreciate the great selection of books and materials. I have found bestsellers, travel books, cook books, current DVDs and magazines. It still amazes me that it is available to everyone for free. I hope that never changes.

Coral Harrison
I can order books online and pick them up when they e-mail me.

Anna Mason
It has a cozy corner with a fireplace and chairs so that you can spend time reading or paging through a book.

Christine
It is easy to find what I want.

Jean
I love the entire experience! It is comforting to be in a place that houses so many books. Just seeing the books residing on the shelves gives me a cozy feeling. What a great place to while away an hour, or so!

Karen Terry
You can find the recent books very easily. There are so many good ones that you don't know which one to pick. I try to pick my favorites and sometimes pick authors I haven't read before by looking at the title. If the title sounds good, I will read the inside cover and make my choice.

Deanna Stillings
Other than the books, I think our librarians are the best in the US.

Andrea
I like the fact that my local library obtains newly published books fairly quickly. It is a great resource, especially since I write book reviews for a local newsletter. This helps me not only to promote the various works, but the library as well.

Sandy H.
They know me so well that when a book comes in that they are aware I would like, they call me immediately. It helps that I can see the library from my deck and that I am there nearly three times a week.

Erin
The staff.

Diane
Audio books --- with a long drive to and from work, they take my mind off traffic. I 'm hooked.

Linda Sheehan
It's free, and with the help of the Friends, it offers wonderful programs and perks!

Dory Stewart
It's a mile from my house, I conduct writers workshops once a month.

I like the folks who work there and those who are part of the monthly book discussion group.

And, I like that I can search for books online!

Mary Allen
I can check on my computer to see if they have a certain book and put it on hold.

Noreen Brown
You can check out books, even new ones, for 28 days.

Audrey Upham
In spite of a limited income, I can read to my heart's delight any and all of the books I enjoy.

Laurie Blum
The online catalog

Marsha Spiewak
The library's ability and willingness to obtain, either by purchasing or inter-library loan, any book that I request. I often request those forthcoming books that I've discovered on Bookreporter.com. When I was a new resident of my town and recovering from hip-replacement surgery, the director of my library delivered my books herself.

Jan Baybusky
I have so many books in the house that I don't really check books out except ones for my granddaughter. I also donate many books to my local library.

Janice Hoaglin
In Springfield, Mo we have a wonderful library system that truly serves the community. There are meeting rooms that can be reserved for community groups, great programs, multimedia that can be checked out, and a process for requesting books to be purchased by the library. Best of all, there are cafes in the library, to sit and read while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Cherylyn Danjou
Their large selection of books.

Christine
My favorite thing about my local library is the used book sales.

Mary B. Hogan
I cannot imagine living in a city or town that did not have a library. No matter how many books you buy, there is always a need for more. I think Andrew Carnegie should be considered a real hero.

Tobi Drabczyk
It's free!

Lisa
The feeling of anticipation and expectation that you get when you find a wonderful book to read, discover a new author, or learn something new.

Sara
The interlibrary loan!

Sandra Stevens
The friendly staff.

Gerry
My favorite thing about my local library is its participation in an inter-library loan system, so that I have ready access to any book I want, even if it's not in my local library's collection. I'm also enthusiastic about the library's newest acquisition: Playaway books, an audio book format that's self-contained in a tiny player the size of a cell phone; all I need to add is my headset, and I'm ready to listen. The Mount Laurel (NJ) library is the best!

Jean Kruse
I use my library mostly for books on CD. I travel a lot and there is no greater pleasure than having uninterrupted time to listen to someone read a book to you. My library has a wonderful selection of these CDs. Of course, I also take advantage of the books in the library.

Deborah Oller
I'm not from the area so my favorite thing about our local library is that I can find regional and local authors' books, and books on the area that I wouldn't find elsewhere.

Jan Kanowitz
My favorite thing about my local library is that I can request the newest books via email, be put on their list, and get the book when it is available! How easy is that? And it is free! Yes, I do have to wait my turn, but I am patient.

Bob Hartzo
The many different books that are you are able to read, study and entertain yourself with.

Katherine Stephens
The new books are displayed as soon as you walk in the door, plus the people who work there.

Barbara Broberg
I read about four books a week and the librarians know my reading likes and always tell me about new books and author gossip. They also let me borrow The Forecast, the magazine that lists the new books coming out each month, with a short synopsis of the story.

Teresa
I can request items online to pick up at the library nearest me. Also, we check out CDs and audio books.

Pat
I live 1 1/2 miles from our local library and can walk, bike or drive there 7 days a week to pick up a book that I can order online from my own den! I order my favorite "30" authors, plus any new author that I have seen featured on Bookreporter. If I choose, I can use the other services available: DVDs, magazines, reference texts, newspapers and more. I love being a library user, and believe it is the BEST part of my yearly tax bill. I cannot imagine not using our public library system, as it is a "blessing."

Kristy
It is peaceful and atmospheric. I just like to BE there!

Karen
That I can reserve a book online as soon as I hear about it, and get notified by e-mail that it's being held for me when it comes in.

Pamela Gordon
It is very close and it is free!

Billie McHam
They have a lot of books and you can get them shipped to your local library if they are housed at another branch. It saves me a lot of money since I am on a fixed income.

Kay Bowes
The wide variety of materials that are available at my local public library, which are all for free.

Ellen
My favorite parts of the adult section of the library are the recommended books shelf and the new fiction and mysteries shelves.

I am a teacher and my favorite thing about the children's library are the librarians who recommend great read-alouds and the book packs delivered for my classroom every month. They help expand my classroom library and give my students the opportunity to sort the books by genre every month.

Sally Gawne
It's close to home, I can request and reserve books, as well as renew them online.

Sheila Soloff
I love how you can go online to the library website, and request any book from a new release to a very old one, and then just pop into your local library to pick it up. Before this system was put into place I used to stalk the shelves for the new releases.

Darlene Reilly
The amount of and availability of great books.

Debra Le
I have known the librarian there for years. She is so willing to get the books that I really want to read. She knows my family and always has a kind word and a prayer for us. She is a ray of sunshine in my life.

Sheila Macklin
The very best thing about our local library is that it is part of a library system affiliated with other systems in our province. Due to this, I can sit at my computer and search for the books that I want, browse others, order them to my local library and keep current with the databases. It's great!

Shannon
It's where I work and have been director for nearly 11 years! Is there a job better than one where you have access to books you want to read all day, every day? I think not.

Sandi Lewis
It has an overabundance of books. And, if I can't find one I'm looking for I check inter-library loan to reserve the book from another library.

Mary Angela Young
If my library doesn't have the book I'm looking for, they make sure to get it for me from another library. And, it usually only takes them a couple of days to get it.

Helen Kilker
Being surrounded by books of all types, and of course, the other items that the library allows you to check out!

Roseann
My library is brand new and was built to be awesome. It is bright with high windows on the southern walls. It has a fireplace and reading loft. It just makes you want to curl up there and live with your book.

Carolsue Donabar
My favorite thing about our library is all the different book groups you can join. There's a group for any genre.

Robin Webb
Maple Shade's library is in the Municipal Bldg. so we joke that you can get booked and booked all in the same place! Seriously, the friendly staff is the best part!

Sharron
I can reserve my favorite read or a new release online. Then, all I have to do is walk in and check it out. I always look for what's "coming soon" and am one of the first to read a new release.

Debi
My local library is wonderful! I like to browse through Bookreporter.com, then place holds via the internet. Since I live in a small town, our library has to request the books from other libraries. I'm so busy that all I have to do is pick up my books after I get an e-mail note. The staff sees me coming, and they have my books waiting! An added plus is that a new teacher in the room next door to mine works part-time at the library! What more could I ask for?

Lita Jones
My current favorite thing about the library is the ability to download e-books and read online. At the end of 3 weeks, the book is no longer available but if you didn't finish you can re-checkout if book is available. A newer addition is to put books on request or downloading when they are available.

Brenda Tucker
It has a wonderful coffee shop that I go to after I have checked out my books.

Michelle Stein
The reserve system: they save books for you, e-mail you when they get in, and even e-mail a reminder a couple of days before they are due. I always reserve any book I want to read, and when I get to the library they are waiting in a special section under my name.

When I see the name of any book I want to read I just put it on the reserve list and wait to find out it is there for me.

Jeanie
I can reserve books online and they are ready for me to run in and pick up!

Pat Wilson
The wide variety of material available in many formats --- regular books, audio books on disc, cassettes and downloadable --- and the fact that it's free!

Lorettasanford
I check with bookreporter about the books not yet out, and then go to my library and put them on hold before anyone else can. I also could not commute to work without my audio books; I never listen to the radio anymore.

Ann Rumsey
I love that we can get a book from any branch in the system sent to our local branch. The self checkout system is great too. The books I request online are on a self-service shelf, so I scan them at a checkout station and I am in and out quickly (unless I am browsing for more books!).

L. Wysocki
The location is convenient, I can reserve books online and the people who work at the library are friendly and helpful.

Deborah Kay West
I love the online connection to the library. I can log on, check out new audio books or books of interest and select the branch I wish to pick up the books. I then receive an e-mail telling me the books are ready to be picked up. Or, I may receive an e-mail reminding me to return books that are checked out. Our library also has wonderful programs such as authentic Japanese tea ceremonies, how to tat or fold origami and actors who re-create historical moments.

Nichol Yanarella
I present a toddler reading program at our Childrens library. I am a Volunteer. The best thing is seeing the very young children get interested in books. Seeing the children's faces light up when being read to, and I love how the library is helping the parents in reading to their children and the steps in promoting literacy.

Linda Vielhauer
You can reserve books online and they notify you when they are available, and also when they are due.

Elaine Murphy
It is close by. The librarians and staff are wonderful; they cannot do enough for you. It is a very comfortable place to sit, relax and read a magazine. They have a lot of programs for children and adults. I could go on forever, but I won't.

Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez
They have thousands and thousands of books to choose from on every subject that anyone could use in their research or schooling or just to enjoy reading for fun!

Vivian Watts
The quiet nooks and comfortable chairs, along with the lighting that is perfect for reading is what makes my library a favorite place to visit.

Joan
The favorite thing about my library is the friendly, helpful staff and of course, the books.

Sandy Greathouse
Everything! It's a magical place to me and my favorite place to go for an afternoon out to browse all kinds of books. I am like a kid in a candy store there.

Jackie Villano
The people who work there. They are friendly and very helpful.

kathyinoregon
I worked as a clerk in a library that seemed to have little or no noise control. We moved to a new state and my local library is so quiet and clean, I just love being there.

gracee
We just opened a state-of-the-art new library in our town! Of course it's far from full, but I love our local library because we can renew online, and reserve books through our inter-library loan through two counties! It's a huge area that we can have books reserved for a whopping .50c for us. We pick them up at the library we designate online. They even e-mail you when it comes in! Very cool.

David Rudy
The Reference Librarian, who can point me in the right direction for my quest.

Melinda Jones
The staff, from head librarian to the person at the checkout desk! We can not only talk books, but they will contact me if a program is coming up they think I will enjoy. Also, 33 years ago, when I first moved to Connecticut and took my children to our new library, I met someone who is still one of my best friends and, at 80 years of age, is a truly remarkable person.

Sue Walla
They tell me I'm their best "customer. I reserve online and get a call when the books are in. I tell them it's like Christmas to me, so that is how they leave a message: Christmas has come early --- come 'n get 'em.

Kathy Vieira
My favorite thing about the local library is that it's my favorite book store, too. They sell many used books for $1 and there is always something from my "to read" list available.

Sharon
The variety of books and magazines. I'm an eclectic reader and the library has so much to offer. And since I go there 3 to 4 times a week, the staff know me by name.

Kathleen Cutsail
Helpful people.

Mellena Driver
I love the fact that the ladies at our library know me by name and I know them. They have also watched my two daughters growing up for the last seven years.

Kim
I love having free access to explore so many worlds through different media, and to find people with whom I share common interest in the those worlds.

Connie Booton
I have a "queue" like Netflix, and the library e-mails me when they are ready to pick up. The library is one block from work, so it's very convenient.

Heather Murdock
The women and men who work at the Chatham, IL library are wonderful! They are always friendly and have come to know me and my daughter by name. They are fabulous, fabulous people!

Bob Coghill
Inter-library loan.
Some of the books that I want to read were published 20 or 30 years ago. My local library is able to obtain these books from as far away as California (I am in Alaska).

Pattie Berryhill
I love my county library website. I can order books, vhs tapes, and dvds online and the library calls me when they are ready to be picked up.

Lynn Ketelsen
That they are going to expand it! That, and the great computer check-out/request service that they have.

Danelle Drake
My favorite thing about the local library is that there is great community involvement and a broad activities schedule for both children and adults. Next week, the author of CATALOOCHEE, Mr. Caldwell, will be there for a book talk.

Catherine

Tammy Brunette
They have tons of books and new video releases too.

Mary Lou Wachsmith
I love the book rentals, and the fact that I live only two blocks from the library.

I also love that I can order books from other branches online, and they arrive at my branch, and I get a notice to go pick them up. Sometimes I forget I have ordered something, and its fun to find out what book is waiting for me. I know, I need a life!

Jeri
The staff are all friendly and many of them know patrons by name. The library keeps up with bestsellers and offers many events.

Barbara Goettler
Being able to access the library online from my home so I can put books and DVDs (movies) on hold. Then, they notify me when the book or movie is in and can be picked up. It is a great convenience as I am in a wheelchair and my husband does all the errands.

Eileen J. Orosz
Their website.

M. J. Trauth
The friendly librarians who can always recommend a good book.

The public service provided.

The helpful and friendly librarians.

The new paperback releases that are available every month.

I can get most of my favorite authors' books, and while waiting for them to come in I can get another mystery or fiction by just checking shelves. I read more books in the library.

All the books would be my first answer, but what I really like seeing is all the people that are there when I walk in. It makes me happy to know that people are using their library because it truly is a gift to us!

The smell of the books. There is a different, pleasant smell in a library.

Margaret Nance
The wonderful people who work there. This is also the place we have a monthly book discussion.

Robert E. Brown, Sr.
My local library is very well organized and offers every type of book that is published. They even have paperbacks for check-out, along with movies, books on tape and a very well-stocked reference section thatt is on its own floor. I enjoy visits to my library because it makes me feel like I'm at home.

Leslie Madigan
Being able to reserve books online, and the fact that the librarians know me by name.

Janice
They are renovating my local library, which will bring it up to date.

Carole Turner
It is the fact that we have a library at all!! We live on a small island, and our local library (a branch of a mainland library, and affiliated with Cleveland Libraries) is housed in the school library. It is manned totally by volunteers and is is open during the school year three times a week for two hours. In the summer, it is open five times a week for two hours.

Of course, our local collection of books is rather small; however, our volunteers request books we want to read, and we're pleased when they do arrive.

The library is a lifeline to the outside world, especially in the winter when ice isolates us from the mainland. The library is very important and appreciated here.

Suzanne
The staff and StarCat, my computerized local library.

Ann B
I can access the catalog by internet, and order books to be sent to my local branch, giving me access to more books than just one building can hold.

Jeannie
The twice-a-year used book sale, where I can pick up many of the books on these lists for a small fraction of the price and get more of them at a time. The sale goes on for 4 days, and I go the first day and another day when I can save even more money, half-price and bag day! I love it and look forward to spring and fall sales!! My bookshelves are bulging!

Marsha Moore
My local library is very small. The books all seem to be used/read a lot but with gentle hands. It is a cozy place to visit.

Louise Pledge
The fact that I completely run it, myself. It's such a joy to attract new patrons, and soon I'm getting new shelves, since we have outgrown our present resources. It's so much fun to discover new authors I haven't read before!

Bev Haas
It's easy to explore.

Sue
I love that we're part of a larger consortium. I can select books based on Bookreporter, things I hear in the news, book store displays, friend recommendations, etc. Then I request them online and my branch calls me when they are in. I request so many books that the librarians know me by name.

Rita
The friendly librarians who will help me find anything I want.

The candy store atmosphere --- where I can always find something I love to read, quench my curiosity with an array of subjects, and always rely on walking into and out of the library with a smile on my face. Absolutely, my favorite place to be!

June Krueger
Being a small local library, a branch of the county system, the favorite thing about my branch is that they can get any book I request in a day or two. I also love the style and decor. Our library, Fort Vancouver Regional Library, in Clark County, WA, has the most wonderful online feature! I research and order my books online, pick them up at my local branch, and check them out myself with the new automated check-out and check-in machines. It's absolutely wonderful!

Yet --- librarians are always on hand and at the ready to help whenever a question arises. It's the greatest library I've ever belonged to!
