If childhood vacations count as road trips, I remember reading HEIDI while on the train from France to Switzerland, and how angry my father was because I wouldn't stop reading to look at the Alps.

Michelle Miller
Back about 8 or 9 years ago, I read Stephen King's ROSE MADDER aloud to my husband while we were driving to and from Michigan on vacation. I always read on road trips, usually to myself. However, this was significant because it was the one time my husband ever expressed interest in a book. Alas, that interest has gone.

Brenda Broadway
BLACK BEAUTY was the last book I tried to finish reading on a trip to Alabama when I was 10 years old. I haven't read more than a few paragraphs from any book while waiting in line at drive-thru's but not at all while the vehicle is moving as I get motion sickness.

Suzanne
We've listened to all the Harry Potter books on audio to keep the kids quiet on road trips. It works!

I have many vivid memories of audio books carrying me through long road trips. I will sitting in the back seat of a car for a three-hour trip that I was dreading. I read NEVER LET ME GO by Kazuo Ishiguro for the total time. The book, on the surface about clones, had an underlying insight into the human condition --- a way of looking at life that was totally new to me but that I should have seen.

Before I got older and my aging inner ears made it impossible, I used to love reading in the car. I am not known for my driving skills so road trips meant long, undisturbed hours to indulge in a good book. The most memorable road trip read was MISERY by Stephen King. It was so gripping and really made the miles fly by.

Carolyn Sundberg
BABY LOVE by Catherine Anderson

Suzy Smith
On a trip to Florida and back to New York, I had packed about 8 books and finished them all. By the time we got to New Jersey on the trip back, I lied and said I had to go to the bathroom because I needed another book. I found my first Maeve Binchy title --- LIGHT A PENNY CANDLE --- and didn't stop reading it, nor did I unpack until I was finished. I have read every book of hers since.
