Tell us about one book that you were intrigued to read after reading an excerpt.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon is a book that made me curious after reading an excerpt. It is narrated by a unique boy, Christopher, who may have a form of autism (asperger). Just the cover of the book made me think there was much to be learned from this story, and I was NOT disappointed.

After reading a small part of Into Africa by Martin Dugard, I ordered it right away. It is nonfiction and looks to be a great read.

I was very excited about reading Kill the Messenger by Tami Hoag after reading an excerpt. I read the book and was not disappointed.

I read a blurb about Keith Ablow (an author I had not heard of previously), so I then read all of his books in print, and I enjoyed them.

Reading reviews by other readers provides greater insight to me than reading excerpts. I typically read several reviews from a variety of online sources to determine if I would like to read a given title. Your website is so informative and fun to visit!!

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

I am in a happy rut, reading mainly suspense, mystery, thrillers and romance. Occasionally I get out briefly and am sometimes happily surprised to find I enjoyed the book and others by the author. Such was the case when I read an excerpt fromCoastliners. I thought of Joanne Harris as an author of mainly light, women's books, but the excerpt gave me a different view and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. There was suspense, mystery and romance all written with a fine hand and very satisfying. It taught me to read more excerpts from unknown (to me) authors.

I found Garden of Beasts by Jeffery Deaver very intriguing.

The book I have read most recently because I was intrigued by an excerpt is The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber, an incredible read. I just picked up The Mammoth Cheese by Sheri Holman based on an excerpt as well.

I'm reading Chris Bohjalian's Before You Know Kindness. This is one of those books that puts you in each of the character's heads and you know what each is going through. Like a reality show, you just want more and more of each of them. This is a novel of a Mother, her daughter and son's families and what happens when one of the granddaughters shoots her father by accident (or was it?).

I read an excerpt online from Not Fade Away: A Short Life Well Lived by Laurence Shames and Peter Barton. It sounded good, got the book and really enjoyed it.

After reading about it on Bookreporter, I found a copy of The Romanov Prophecy and devoured it during a flight from Oklahoma City to Cincinnati. With a 3-hour layover in Cinci, I started Steve Berry's first book The Amber Room and finished it on a flight to Erie, PA. WOW!!!!! for both books!

My Sister's Keeper by Judy Picoult. I read the first chapter online late one night, had to buy it the next day as I couldn't wait for shipping, and finished it the next day (after having to take it back from my daughter after reading her the first two chapters). I also stayed up later than I should have to read it. I cried, laughed, and sobbed while reading this book. I was worried that my daughter had taken it to school after I gave it back to her and how she would deal with sobbing at the end, but she had also stayed up late to finish it. "So I lucked out, I sobbed at home, which is much better than in a high school classroom" was her answer to where she was when she finished the book. It has also inspired me to find more of Picoult's work and recommend this book to my book club. My family was surprised at first that I went out to buy it instead of getting it from the library (usually my first choice, especially for brand new books in hardback), until I read them the first chapter. Their response to it was, "Don't stop reading now," and then taking it while I fixed dinner.

I think the most recent one is Serving Crazy with Curry. I read the first couple of pages in the store and was immediately caught up. I bought it and read it as soon as I got home. The book starts with a killer line: "The DOW was down almost 600 points the week Devi decided to commit suicide," and I couldn't resist reading on. And I thought the title was quite funny.

Another book I read because of the excerpt was My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I am signed up to receive chapters by email, and I went and bought the book after reading the first two pages. The book was okay until the end, which I thought was disappointing.

Beautifully written and an intriguing story.

The Love Wife by Gish Jen.
I've never read anything by this person and the excerpt that I read interested me. I actually ended up purchasing this book and an older publication by this author at the same time, based on the excerpt. I have yet to read either but I am looking forward to it.

I was moved to read Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. After reading The Da Vinci Code I was fascinated to see what else he could unearth about the Medieval Church. This was such a good read, I could not put it down and bought Deception Point. Now I am anxious for another by Dan Brown.

I was excited enough by the excerpt to read Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan. Great writer!

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
