If Tomorrow Never Comes
Desperate for a child, Kinna Henley committed an unthinkable act as a nurse. She stole some vials of a very expensive fertility drug that the hospital had scheduled to be returned to the pharmaceutical company. After taking the doses in the vials, her plan was to seduce her husband with a romantic evening and pray that finally their union would produce the desired pregnancy. However, much like with Sarah of the Old Testament and her attempt to “help God” answer her prayers, things went very wrong.
Unbeknownst to Kinna, that same day, her husband Jimmy was fired from his job. Working at a dead end job for an unethical contractor, getting fired was the last straw. Jimmy no longer believed that dreams could come true. And he was definitely not looking forward to going home to tell his wife the news. Twenty years of marriage that started out with hopes, dreams and promises had deteriorated into a cold, distant relationship that was barely tolerable. So, given the circumstances, it was not surprising that Kinna’s attempts to seduce her husband failed miserably.
This seemingly impossible situation sets the stage for Marlo Schalesky to work her faith and to demonstrate that “With God, all things are possible.” Using an unusual technique that brings angel-like characters into the story, both Kinna and Jimmy are challenged to remember the early days of their relationship. Recalling the love they once had for each other and the plans they made for a full, happy life begins to help them change their negative perspectives.
In the secular world, they are called coincidences. In the Christian world they are called Divine Appointments. These are occurrences that expand our understanding, surprise us with their timeliness and affirm our faith in a loving, omniscient God. From the job site accident that causes Jimmy to lose his job to his encounter with an old man who bears an uncanny resemblance to his abusive father, the author steers Jimmy Henley toward redemption. For Kinna, her Divine Appointment with an old woman on the beach helps her begin her journey back from obsession and toward prayer and expectation.
For anyone who has experienced the heartbreak of infertility or has grown cold toward their spouse or slipped away from their faith because God was not answering their prayers, this book will encourage and give hope. For anyone looking for an exciting story with many surprises, IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES will provide a good read. Marlo Schalesky has the gift of writing straight from her heart to yours.
