Biography

Mary Lou Wachsmith

Born and raised in NYC, I made my way across the country, with a stop for seven years in Wichita, KS before finally landing in SoCal in 1978. I have been here ever since. After being a housewife for 16 years, I went to law school in my 40s and received my law degree in 1990. I practiced law until a few years ago, and now work as a tutor, via the Internet, of students studying for the bar exam. I work for a Florida-based company and tutor students from many different states. It is so rewarding to work with these students, helping them to achieve their goals.

I think I always wanted to be a teacher, but got sidetracked with the practice of law. The great thing about my job, aside from getting to meet so many interesting people, is that I can do it from home via Skype. And, since the bar exam is given twice a year, I get to work six months and play six months.

I have two fabulous sons who are married to wonderful women, and five beautiful grandchildren ranging in ages from 2 to 13 years of age. My sons both love to read, and I feel good that I was able to pass that love along to them. We still move books around to each other after all these years. And they both are instilling the same love of reading in their own children.

I live in a beautiful beach town in Southern California, and I have wonderful friends and family. I have been a follower of Carol Fitzgerald and Bookreporter.com since 1996, and the weekly newsletter has remained my favorite Saturday morning activity for all these years.
