Where is the most unusual place that you ever read a book?

Neil Andersen
In a police car while on duty.

Tessa Bartels
In a tent while we were wilderness camping ... using my mini flashlight.

Pat
In the bathtub.

Michelle Miller

On the table at the gynecologist's, naked and waiting for the doctor

Toni Savchuck
While giving blood.

Janis Hahn
During a Bill Graham Crusade. I was probablyh in third grade and already an avid reader. My parents were in the choir and I had to go early when they rehearsed. I took a book, of course, and then didn't want to stop reading when the crusade started. To make it worse, I dropped the book (noisly through bleachers in the big gym where it was held) and couldn't find it afterwards. Needless to say, I learned a lesson.

Patty
With a flashlight, curled up in a tent during Desert Storm.

Janice
The laundrymat

Bob Hartzo
In a tree.

Susan
In the closet with a flashlight, so I would not disturb my husband.

Jean Kruse
I have a lovely older home with a large front porch. I really enjoy sitting on my swing and passing the hours with a good book.

Beth Cummings
In a tree

Lynn
In a treehouse belonging to my nephew.

Rosalie Sambuco
The most unusual place I read a book was in a funeral home. I was with some friends and I did not know the deceased or his family. It was too cold and dark to stay in the car, so I quietly sat in the parlor of the funeral home and read.

Linda Smith
As a child, hidden in the closet with a flashlight, as I was supposed to be in bed sleeping. My three sisters with whom I shared a bedroom would have ratted on me if they knew I was still awake and reading.

Lorene Newton
Book in one hand, fishing pole in the other.

Linda M. Johnson
I tried to read one in traffic court when I accompanied my husband. The bailiff made me stop because it was showing dishonor for the court. It didn't make any difference that I was not involved only accompanying the offender.

Whitney
In my car, during a 2-hour traffic jam.

Daphne
By the light of a campfire up on the South Sister, I read a book on poisonous plants. It was 1972, and this was the only book we had between the three of us. (I was starving for printed words.)

Lisa
Waiting in line to pick up a rental car at the airport! I was nearing the end of a real page-turner mystery by Minette Walters and couldn't wait to find out who did it:)

Eric
At work. That's right; I don't do much at my job, so essentially I got paid to read WAR AND PEACE and other novels I read over the summer.

Marcia
On a glider at a Lowes while my husband was browsing.

Dorothy Cowling
On Heron Island at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Rita Bueter
I've read a book at a professional baseball game.

Rosemary Harris
At a construction site in central Tanzania last month. Pic available.

Tam
Sitting on the toilet

Patricia Speth
In the emergency room cubicle, while waiting to have stitches in my forehead and knee after a car wreck! I was reading the script for a Pippin show that I was involved with in college production.

Mary Branham
I read all the time in the bathtub. Everyone thinks it sounds crazy, but with a tub full of bubbles, a good bath pillow, and a good book, it's fantastic!

Katherine Stephens
In the bathroom, on the toilet.

Sherri Hines
On a beach in Rio de Janeiro in my blue jeans. Later, I also read my book in Rio's botanical gardens.

Linda
Reading as I was driving the tractor, while my son and husband loaded the wagon with the harvest.

Jane
In the delivery room, while in labor with my first child.

Bob Coghill
I do much of my reading while walking to and from work (2 miles), or walking in the evening. It takes practice, but I have been doing this for over ten years. I started with poetry because you can look up often, and I have a reliable golden retriever. Now, I can read anything and no longer require the dog to watch for traffic.

Tasha
In the kitchen, while cooking dinner.

Anna Robinson
While waiting to have a colonoscopy.

Trez
I am a retired middle-school science teacher. One day while administering a unit test, I read THE BRIDE OF PENDORIC by Victoria Holt. My principal came into the room and stood behind me. I don't know how long he had been there because I was at the part in the book where the heroine was entering the tomb. I was totally unaware of my surroundings.

Shy eyes
In my car, stalled in traffic, during rush-hour gridlock.

Kathy Vieira
I suppose it would have to be in the hospital while I was in labor. It totally took my mind off the pain.

Lynn
Pulled off on the side of the freeway, after having a blowout, while waiting on a wrecker to come change my tire. Luckily I had a book with me, because I waited an hour and a half!!

Patti D.
In the bathtub

Patricia Warren
In Virginia, at Williamsburg while waiting for the rest of the family. I am never with out a bok.

Elise
In the bathroom at work, if the book is one I cannot put down! I hide the book in my purse and go to the bathroom.

Tamelin McNutt
Standing in line at Disneyland! :-)

Miriam
I read while walking --- walking on a track or actual street or park or whatever, not on a treadmill or stationary exercise equipment piece. I seem to draw a lot of attention with this practice. I don't know if others do this or not?

T. Semidey
In the back of my parents' parked station wagon. My brothers and sisters were too noisy in the house. It was my only place to escape for peace and quiet time.

Gloria Buchanan
In the dentist chair.

Carol Pirtle
I used to regularly read while cooking, until one evening, I set my library book on fire! The librarian was not amused.

T
On the balcony of a cruise ship.

Dawn
While getting a tattoo --- my artist didn't seem to mind, because it kept me still.

Judy Cox
In the bathroom, waiting for the waxed floor to dry.

C Simar
At a baseball game

Theres
Waiting for the bus.

Brenda Moak
The most unusual place I've ever read a book is in a tree stand.
I don't hunt, but I'll go along with my husband and daughter, take a book, a pillow, a blanket, then climb into a stand and sit with a book. I have the best of both worlds --- a quiet place to read, and nature at my feet.

Sue
I used to go and sit on a big tree limb when i was a little girl.

Katie Dean
On top of the Eiffel Tower

Tiffany Russell
On the roof of a shed.

Jacki Robertson
At a Major league baseball game, where the seats were far away and there was not much action. I always have a book with me.

Cheryl Koch
In a boat at Lake Powell

Barbara
While receiving chemotherapy in the Triage room at a Chemo lab.

Jen Lalley
I guess it's not a "where" exactly, but a couple of my friends and I would read while we had to walk in Physical Education in high school.

Our teacher would make us walk around the the gym when it rained. Most girls just gossiped, but three of us read!

Irish Helen
In a library. It was one of those little Christmas books by Jan Karon, and I thought it was a waste of time to bring the book home. I was so disappointed and expecting a usual large size, so I just stood there and read it in five minutes.

Michelle Stein
When our children were young, we use to go to a baseball game on the 4th of July. I think I was the only one in the stands reading a book. After a couple of years, I was "excused' from attending.

Maureen
At a Red Sox game!

Fran
On my deck, in my lounge chair with my dog, Cody, across my lap as my bookholder.

Vikkilee
LOL, I kept reading a book while in for a pelvic exam. I hate them, so I kept my mind off my displeasure and kept on reading a very good book.

Ma Titwonky
In a movie theater during an Elvis movie. My roommate in college talked me into going to see it with her (I can't stand Elvis), and I told her I'd keep her company, but I was taking a book. We sat at the end of the row closest to the wall where there was a dim light --- enough that I could see to read. The book I was reading was A STONE FOR DANNY FISHER, and it was MUCH better than that movie.

Joanne Morris
At a Revolutionary War re-enactment.

Michele Rioli
In a museum, while waiting for my husband.

Trish Thomas
Sitting in a train station to get out of a rainstorm, not while waiting for a train).

Tamara R.
A hospital hallway at 3:00 in the morning, waiting for my mom to wake up. It was very quiet and total escape.

Julia
Waiting in line at an IRS office.
