While crime-solving in rural Pekesville, Kentucky might not be the
most riveting of jobs, it's enough to keep Knox Davis, chief county
investigator, busy between 60 and 80 hours per week. Some might say
he's in a bit of a rut, but Knox would tell you that's how he likes
it. He lost his fiancee seven years prior, and a man has a right to
privacy and solace in whatever way he chooses. Sometimes a rut can
be a comfort. Little does Knox know, he's just about to be
catapulted out of his comfort zone and into some of the strangest
happenings Peke County has ever seen.

When the town time capsule mysteriously disappears, the crime seems
to be nothing more than a teenage prank; while it needs to be
solved, it's not a priority. Not when there's murder afoot.
However, even the murder seems to be out of Knox's control when FBI
agent Nikita Stover stakes her claim on his crime scene.

The catch: Nikita is not your ordinary FBI agent. While it's true
that she is in the FBI, the FBI she's associated with is the FBI
from the year 2207. If that isn't enough to give a man a headache,
what is?

Knox is attracted to and distracted by Nikita, but Nikita focuses
her attention on maintaining a professional distance while doing
the job she was sent back in time to do. Can she maintain her
distance, or will the sparks flying off of Knox in her direction
melt her heart as well as her reserve?

While the mystery and romance are enough to keep you reading, the
glimpse into the future Nikita provides is a plausible look at what
life could be like in America 200 years from now. It's fascinating
to consider the possibilities her dialogue presents and even
funnier to read how our sayings and phrases puzzle her when
translated literally.

While I never would have believed that I'd like a book with
futuristic ties such as this one, I would have been dead wrong.
This was the best book I've read in ages. When you pick it up, make
sure you have a few hours free because you'll definitely want to
read it in one sitting. If not, be prepared to be annoyed with
everything that comes between you and the turning of the page.
KILLING TIME is just one of those books!
