Even If It Kills Her: A Bailey Weggins Mystery

Jillian Lowe is a beautiful young woman in her 30s. She surprisingly shows up at a book-signing event for an old friend, Bailey Weggins. They have not seen each other in 16 years, not since Jillian's family was murdered. Bailey regrets and feels guilty about not staying in closer touch with Jillian, who escaped the massacre because she was away at school. But now she wants Bailey's help in finding the real killer.

Bailey is an investigative reporter who has produced two books and numerous other written pieces. She agrees to help Jillian because the young man convicted of the crime has been found not guilty through new DNA evidence. Unfortunately, he is murdered in prison, and the two agree that a killer is still out there.

"EVEN IF IT KILLS HER is a twisty mystery full of clues and red herrings that are hard to distinguish between. This makes for a very thrilling read. The end is a surprise, and most readers will gasp at the unveiling of the real killer."

So Bailey and Jillian throw themselves into a full-scale investigation, looking for clues and anything that would shed light on what was going on in their Berkshire town 16 years ago. The authorities are not happy about or helpful in the women's search for the truth.

Bailey looks at many different people and circumstances that would implicate someone else in the murders. She soon realizes that she herself is in danger, but from who? She follows various leads, but is the victim of a vicious dog attack when she exposes herself to a meeting with an individual she thinks may have been involved in the slayings. Bailey is always looking over her shoulder since she has become a target for someone.

Recently, author Kate White enthusiastically entertained questions from CriminalElement.com pertaining to the joys of writing both series and stand-alone novels, balancing backstory, creating a realistic sense of danger, organic character development, and exploring the complexities of modern media.

“I actually have tried to apply this lesson to life. Though it can be tough, at first, to slip out of your comfort zone, mixing it up is so worth it in the long run. (Though I’m by no means advocating infidelity or lawbreaking!) The biggest joy in writing a series is spending time with your main character. You know her, you feel attached to her, and you’re really curious about where she’s going next.

"In EVEN IF IT KILLS HER, Bailey comes across a dead body, and it’s a scary moment not because she’s in any imminent danger but because the scene is disturbing and perhaps reminds the reader how volatile life can be. Of course, Bailey does end up in danger on occasion, but readers seem willing to suspend disbelief and worry about her even though they know she’ll probably be alive at the end of the book."

EVEN IF IT KILLS HER is a twisty mystery full of clues and red herrings that are hard to distinguish between. This makes for a very thrilling read. The end is a surprise, and most readers will gasp at the unveiling of the real killer.
