Archives - On Sale This Week

In this newsletter, you will find books releasing the weeks of September 16th and September 23rd that we think will be of interest to Bookreporter.com readers, along with Bonus News, where we call out a contest, feature or review that we want to let you know about so you have it on your radar.

This week, we are calling attention to our "What's Your Book Group Reading This Month?" contest on ReadingGroupGuides.com, where three book groups will win 12 paperback copies of HEARTLAND: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth by Sarah Smarsh (the audiobook is a Bookreporter.com Bets On pick). The deadline for your entries is Wednesday, October 9th at noon ET.

Also, please click on the covers above for our reviews of three books that we featured in last Friday's Weekly Update newsletter: THE TESTAMENTS, the riveting sequel to Margaret Atwood's 1985 dystopian classic, THE HANDMAID'S TALE; THE INSTITUTE by Stephen King, a gut-wrenchingly dramatic story of good vs. evil in a world where the good guys don’t always win; and Emma Donoghue’s latest novel, AKIN, in which a retired professor's life is thrown into chaos when he takes his great-nephew to the French Riviera in hopes of uncovering his own mother's wartime secrets.

This week, we are calling attention to our Nonfiction Author Spotlight of Nefertiti Austin's MOTHERHOOD SO WHITE: A Memoir of Race, Gender, and Parenting in America, which releases on September 24th. Thirty-five readers will win a copy of the book and give us their feedback on it. The deadline for your entries is Thursday, September 19th at noon ET.

We also are featuring YALE NEEDS WOMEN: How the First Group of Girls Rewrote the Rules of an Ivy League Giant by Anne Gardiner Perkins in our New Release Spotlight, and ANNELIES: A Novel of Anne Frank by David R. Gillham in our Paperback Spotlight. Click on the images above for about the book descriptions, excerpts and discussion guides for each title.

This week, we are excited to spotlight William Kent Krueger's newly released stand-alone novel, THIS TENDER LAND. This upcoming Bookreporter.com Bets On pick, which shines new light on a pivotal time in American history, is about four orphans on a life-changing odyssey during the early years of the Great Depression.

Plus, we are calling attention to our Sounding Off on Audio contest for September. This month's prizes are the audio versions of Stephen King's THE INSTITUTE, read by Santino Fontana, and Alice Hoffman's THE WORLD THAT WE KNEW, read by Judith Light. Submit your comments about the audiobooks you've listened to by Tuesday, October 1st at noon ET, and you'll be in the running to win both these audio titles.

Also, we have updated our Books on Screen feature for this month. September's roundup includes the feature films The Goldfinch, It: Chapter Two, Britt-Marie Was Here and Can You Keep a Secret?; the eight-part Netflix miniseries "Unbelievable" and the series premiere of "Stumptown" on ABC; and the DVD releases of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Aladdin, Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am and Shaft.

Finally, be sure to vote in our latest poll. In honor of Bookreporter's 23rd anniversary, we are asking you how long you have been a reader of the site. Are you a newcomer, a longtime fan, or somewhere in between? Let us know by Friday, September 6th at noon ET.
