QUESTIONS FROM READERS
Elizabeth Noble answers readers' questions about personal experiences that may have inspired the plot of her latest novel, THINGS I WANT MY DAUGHTERS TO KNOW, future projects and the possibility of writing historical fiction in the future.
Martha from Marianna, FL: I am curious to know if you have had an experience with losing a loved one from cancer or facing cancer?
Elizabeth Noble: No --- I have been very lucky --- no one close to me has died from cancer. (I'm touching wood right now.) My mother, though, lost her own mother to breast cancer when my mum was in her early 20s. I also have friends who have had similar experiences, and who have been generous with their stories and recollections.
Shawna from Pearland, TX: Would you ever set a novel in the past?
Elizabeth Noble: I'd be so nervous about setting a novel in the past --- you have such a responsibility to do your research properly and to get it right. I love to read historical fiction --- Sarah Waters, Philippa Gregory and Sarah Dunant being amongst my very, very favorites. But, I have never felt the urge to try it myself (I should never say never, should I?!) And I also think that I am still preoccupied by peculiarly modern emotional relationship dynamics.
Sandra from Macon, GA: Are there any upcoming novels in the works?
Elizabeth Noble:I am working on my fifth novel right now --- I have brought an English heroine to New York --- but it ISN'T autobiographical! I'm writing four or five love stories --- and remember that there are all kinds of love stories --- woven together. And I'm having a great time doing it!
