MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT by Sidney Sheldon, 4 3/4 stars
This book was one of his best. It kept me reading it all Morning, Noon & Night. If you are looking for a man that knows how to write and keeps you on the edge of your seat, it would be Sidney Sheldon.
POP GOES THE WEASEL by James Patterson, 5 stars
James Patterson is a master at this game of writing. With my pulse racing at every turn of the page, I could not guess what was going to happen next. I love this main character. Mr. Patterson makes him so real that I read every novel with him in it.
TELL ME YOUR DREAMS by Sidney Sheldon, 5 stars
I must say that this was a brilliantly written book. I can see why I could not put it down. It was so good I had to read it twice just to keep it going.
WHEN THE WIND BLOWS by James Patterson, 3-4 stars
I am reading this book and am having a hard time getting into it. It does not have Det. Alex Cross in it and I figured if I am going to obsess over an author's writing I should read it all. It is written well and it is well thought out and has a great plot. But... This one is not keeping my attention.
CRADLE AND ALL by James Patterson, 4 stars
This book is more like what I want. It does not have Det. Alex Cross, but it is superbly scribed. I am having a ball reading this one and cannot wait to find out how it ends.

AN EIGHTH OF AUGUST by Dawn Turner Trice, 5 stars
THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE by Bill Moyers, 5 stars
WE WERE THE MULVANEYS by Joyce Carol Oates, 4 stars
THE SEASONS OF BEENTO BLACKBIRD by Akosua Busia, 4 stars
NETWORLDING by Melissa Giovagnoli & Jocelyn Carter Miller, 5 stars

BALL FOUR by Jim Bouton, 5 stars
If you love baseball you will love this book. The journal of an itinerate pitcher during the 1968 season, this book enraged players, owners, coachs, the commissoner, heck, just about everyone in baseball, when it was first published. How dare anyone reveal the inner workings of this boys' club called baseball? It was appalling, it was treasonous, and it was entertaining, heartwarming, and hysterical.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET by Anita Shreve, 4 stars
Like one of last week's WOM participants, I too was blindsided by the ending of this book. Based on that person's comments, I'm off to the library to get THE WEIGHT OF WATER in hopes that reading that one will clarify this newer novel. I very much enjoyed it, but still can't resolve my puzzlement about the way Shreve chose to end it.
SUMMER ISLAND by Kristin Hannah, 4 stars
After ten years of estrangement, a 27-year-old woman returns to her childhood home to care for her mother who was injured in a car accident. Forced to confront one another, both mother and daughter begin not only to understand each other but also to understand and accept themselves, and to move on in life without the emotional baggage that has weighed them down for so long. Slow starting, because the first chapters don't seem to hang together well, but characters are eventually fleshed out more fully and Hannah again demonstrates her perceptiveness about characters’ feelings and reactions.

DROWNING RUTH by Cynthia Schwarz, 5 stars
A novel written in simple, yet lyrical prose, it kept me glued from beginning to end. Layer by layer, jumping from narrator to narrator, it peels back the skins of a mystery until the truth is revealed. How and why did Mattie drown? Why does her little girl Ruth insist she drowned also.

HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG by Andre Dubus III, no rating given
THE CAVEMAN'S VALENTINE by George Daves Green, no rating given
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by Harper Lee, no rating given

Lucky4750@aol.com
ANGEL FALLS by Kristin Hannah, 4 stars
A nice story !
DEEP WATERS by Jayne Ann Krentz, 5 stars
Filled with lots of romance, suspense and drama.
SHOP GIRL by Steve Martin, 3-4 stars
An observing tale of the main character who works in a department store. Not a great story, but readable to the end.

tomegan77@home.com
ABANDON INDIANA by Amy Hensley, 5 stars
A highly entertaining tale about the dysfunctional Dollars and their fellow townfolk of Abandon, Indiana. This thought-provoking novel examines issues of family, fame, and what "home" really means.

HiJanelle@aol.com
ONE OF US by David Freeman, 3 stars
An interesting portrait of diplomatic life in colonial Egypt, told from two points of view: those of the young wife of the plenipot of the king of England and of the very green English tutor to the prince turned king of Egypt. Full of diplomatic and palace intrigue, war, sensuality, crosscultural conflicts and coming of age of a number and variety of characters. Good, easy read.
WAITING by Ha Jin, 4 stars
A quiet doctor in China after the Revolution returns every year to his home village, hoping to divorce his plain but faithful arranged wife so he can marry the nurse he loves in the city. After MANY years, he finally accomplishes both purposes, only to question love, marriage and how anticipation and waiting can affect them.

THE RED TENT by Anita Diamant, 2 stars
An interesting story but the biblical inaccuracies really bothered me. I hope anyone really interested in the story of Dinah and Jacob would consult a more reliable source.
BONE HOUSE by Betsy Tobin, 2 stars
I read this book on the recommendation of many Word of Mouth readers. I was extremely disappointed with this book. It was dark and depressing and left me feeling dirty. It addressed many of the basest and lowest aspects of humanity and although some may find that enlightening; I found it to be discouraging and off-putting. I don't recommend it at all.

BURIED EVIDENCE by Nancy Taylor Rosenberg, no rating given
Currently reading. Very good.
THE LADIES OF COVINGTON SEND THEIR LOVE by Joan Medlicott, 5 stars
Very good book. Story about three elderly women and their life together.
THE TIN COLLECTORS by Stephen J. Cannell, 4 1/2 stars
Audio. High tension story about LA Police Detective under investigation.

NancyKWilson@aol.com
HONEYMOON IN PURDAH by Alison Wearing, 5 stars
A first full book effort for Ms. Wearing and it is superb. She travels with a new "husband" in order to move safely through Iran. This allows access to activities and experiences that excite and startle. Be prepared for surprises. Her management of description, her vocabulary and her poetics are joy. I have new thoughts on Iran as a result of this book. Highly recommended.

Bjglu@aol.com
THE UNWANTED by Kien Nguyen, 4 1/2 stars
A harrowing, heartbreaking memoir of an Amerasian boy in the aftermath of the downfall of Viet Nam. You will not soon forget him.
CHERRY by Mary Karr, 4 stars
Sequel to The Liar's Club, continuing Karr's autobiography into adolescence.

PamParrish2001@aol.com
GUILTY PLEASURES by Laurell K. Hamilton, 4.5 stars
CIRCUS OF THE DAMNED by Laurell K. Hamilton, 4.5 stars
BURNT OFFERINGS by Laurell K. Hamilton, 5 stars
Move over Anne Rice, meet Laurell K. Hamilton. Her female heroine is one Anita Blake, tough as nails Vampire Hunter extraordinare. This series rivals Anne Rice's infamous vampire clan and will keep you interested beginning to end and leave you wanting more.

dmmay@yahoo.com
ANGUS, THONGS, AND FULL-FRONTAL SNOGGING: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson by Louise Rennison, 4 stars
Bridget Jones Diary for the teen set. A quick, funny read.

etoilolo@aol.com
HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE by J.K. Rowling, 4.5 stars
It is hard to put down and has a very unsuspecting ending. The writer has outdone himself this time and I hope there is another one as good.

Unsaneboy3@aol.com
THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT by John Steinbeck, 5 stars
I have read this book multiple times and still enjoy it to this very day.

Bjcmcn@aol.com
YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE by Herman Wouk, 5 stars
After reading ICE BOUND by Dr. Jerri Nielsen, which I truly enjoyed, I pulled out my old copy of YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE. Copyright 1962. Showing my age, but, oh what a wonderful book it is. You never want the book to end. It is a definite keeper to be enjoyed again and again.
ICE BOUND by Dr. Jerri Nielsen, no rating given.

Schoenlank1@aol.com
THE FIRST AMERICANS by William Sarabande, 5 stars
It is a breathtaking look at man's past. This work of fiction is one of those special books you just cannot put down. As you finish one book you greedily devour the next one. It is one possibility, one answer, to the mysterious way man came to this continent. My friend bought two of his series for me for my birthday and she is a true friend.

nlephart@shol.com
PLAIN JANE by Fern Michaels, 0 stars
I usually enjoy Fern Michaels' novels, but this one was the worst book I ever read. The main character was dull and very wishy-washy. I don't know why the "man of her dreams" ever stayed around --- I would have been long gone. I only finished the book as I couldn't believe how awful it was.

MarionK105@aol.com
CLOSE TO SHORE by Michael Capuzzo, no rating given.
I read this book in one day. In my opinion it's the first "beach read" of the summer, literally. It is about the first recorded shark attack in modern US history. It occured in 1916 on the New Jersey coast. This book has rich detail into the way people lived in that era as well as information on the great white shark. I loved the book for its history and terror.

A DISTANT CROSSING by Thomas Parks, 5 stars
I heard about it from friends, and found it on Amazon. There are almost thirty reviews, and most all are five stars. It was a great, fast-paced read that I finished in three days. The plot involves current events, and could very well happen.

Bossu49@aol.com
CLOSE TO SHORE by Michael Capuzzo, 5 stars
AN ALBUM OF MEMORIES by Tom Brokaw, 5 stars
A PAINTED HOUSE by John Grisham, 5 stars

Bjglu@aol.com
EDEN CLOSE by Anita Shreve, 5 stars
I enjoyed this as much or more than THE PILOT'S WIFE. The main characters are so well-drawn you'll feel you've known them all your life and will truly care about them. Self-propelling storyline keeps one reading into the night.

dbelk105@adelphia.net
MOON TIGER by Penelope Lively 3 stars

Gardenkeeper2@aol.com
A BREACH OF PROMISE by Anne Perry, 5 stars
Great Plot.
A SUITABLE BOY by Vikram Seth, 3 stars
Saga from India, interesting but too long.

MrFantastic20@aol.com
PROSPERO'S CHILDREN by Jan Siegel, 5 stars
HIDDEN PASSIONS: Secrets from the diaries of Tabitha Lennox. 5 stars
THE BONESETTER'S DAUGHTER by Amy Tan, 3 stars
I'm working my way through the slow-moving latest book from my favorite author, Amy Tan. Right now, it rates a 3, for being slow, but it may take off soon.
WHAT IF by Robert Cowley et al, 1 star
I recently abandoned WHAT IF: The World's Foremost Military Historians Imagine What Might Have Been. This book rates a 1, for taking an extremely interesting premise and making it dreadfully boring.
