ONE FOR THE MONEY by Janet Evanovich, 4 stars
TWO FOR THE DOUGH by Janet Evanovich, 4 stars
Thanks to a fellow bookreporter, I have just recently discovered Evanovich's Stephanie Plum mysteries.  I would highly recommend these to anyone who already enjoys Sue Grafton's Kinsey or Sara Paretsky's V.I.  or to anyone who is just looking for a light-hearted read.  Stephanie's misadventurous bounty hunting and her wacky friends and family will make your day.

SNOWBOUND by Harry Razor

Lucky4750@aol.com
ROSES ARE RED by James Patterson, 5 stars
A book I couldn't put down. Mystery, love, leaving you with "When does the sequel come out" ?

LITTLE ITALY COOKBOOK by David Ruggerio, 5 stars
Not like any cookbook I ever read --- personal stories about family and the dish listed. A great cookbook as well! A must see.

TARA ROAD by Maeve Binchy, 5 stars
Storytelling filling you with every possible emotion. Don't miss, one of the better books.

DREAM COUNTRY by Luanne Rice, 5 stars
A "comfortable" read. Her latest book. Luanne takes you along with the Tucker family from their ranch in Montana, through the disappearance of their son, (a twin), the breakup of the marriage, to Connecticut and back to the ranch again, as their now 16-year-old remaining child runs away. It all comes full circle. An enjoyable read.

CLAWS AND EFFECT by Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown, 4 stars
Not up to the usual standards.

This book will rip your sides with laughter...

HELL'S ANGEL by Ralph "Sonny" Barger (with Keith & Kent Zimmerman), 4 stars
A revelation for motorcyclists and this aging non-biker! Informative but slow reading...

CRADLE AND ALL by James Patterson
Excellent book to keep you occupied.  I finished this book in two nights.

UKHRH@aol.com

CRUEL AS THE GRAVE Sharon Kay Penman 4 stars
Mystery -- The further adventure's of Justin de Quincy, secret investigator for Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Nicol5766@aol.com
A CHILD CALLED IT by David Pelzer, 5 stars
I liked it because since the author David Pelzer was abused by his mother himself, is that it was described as if you were there the whole time, it was happening you could easily make an image of it your head.

Bkgobbler@aol.com
RIGHT AS RAIN by George Pelecanos, 4 1/2 stars
One of Pelecanos's best of his recent novels. All new characters, with lots of depth and heart. The novel gives a very realistic, no-holds-barred look at race relations (in D.C., but could be in any major city) and prejudices. Start here, then go back to THE BIG BLOWDOWN (his very best, in my opinion), and read them all.

FIFTY ACRES AND A POODLE by Jeanne Marie Laskas, 5 stars
Laskas, a columnist for The Washington Post Magazine, has written a wonderful book that's both emotionally resonant and funnier than all get-out. The book chronicles her real-life journey from single urban professional to married rural professional on a 50-acre farm in Pennsylvania. The mishaps and run-ins with the locals and stories of life on the farm are hilarious; and her musings on exactly how a very independent and solitary person "becomes one" with another person are thoughtful and heartwarming. One of my favorite books of the past year.

ME AND TED AGAINST THE WORLD: The Unauthorized Story of the Founding of CNN by Reese Schonfeld, 4 stars
This was "required reading," and I'll admit, I was prepared for another boring, self-serving story of a media mogul. What a pleasant surprise to find this book was as exciting as reading a well-plotted novel! Schonfeld gives some of his professional history as background, then dives into the story of how he and Ted Turner created the country's first 24-hour cable news network, which is fascinating. There are many engrossing stories of Turner (who Schonfeld obviously admires for his chutzpah), as well as other famous news and media stars who got their start or spent some time at CNN: Katie Couric, Daniel Schorr, Bernard Shaw, and others. Schonfeld's creative thinking and willingness to explore "the path not yet taken" is inspiring, and he's not finished yet (he also started The Food Network, and is rumored to have new ideas up his sleeve). This should be required reading for anyone interested in journalism, news, or the media in general.

REFLECTING THE SKY by S. J. Rozan, 4 stars
A Chinese-American private investigator, along with her professional partner, are hired by her grandfather's friend to fly to Hong Kong to deliver a family heirloom. But before it can be delivered a trail of events happen..

THE SECRET INGREDIENT MURDERS by Nancy Pickard & Virginia Rich 5 Stars
Mystery. Keeps you guessing to the end. Easy reading.

BLACK SPARK, WHITE FIRE by Richard Poe, 5+ stars
If you are a history buff, this is the one for you. It takes you to Egypt, the Pyramids, and the Spinx.

THE VINEYARD by Barbara Delinsky, 5 Stars
Very good reading. Keep a box of tissues handy, you might shed a few tears. It proves you can't judge a book always by the title.

ZakasNana@aol.com
POSTMORTEM by Patricia Cornwell, 5 stars
I couldn't put this one down once I started it.

FROM POTTER'S FIELD by Patricia Cornwell, 3 stars
This one started out good and kept me interested till the last few pages. The ending was a real let down.

THE DEVIL'S CODE by John Sanford, 5 stars
I read everything this guy writes. This book is a high tech thriller.

SUMMER SISTERS by Judy Blume 5 stars
This is an outstanding book for women of all ages. It depicts the friendship of two girls from the begining of their friendship in their pre-teen years, well into adulthood. Everything from the guys they date, to their summers away at their mutual haven in Matha's Vineyard. Anyone can relate to this story. A must read! After you read it, pass it on to your best girlfriend!

SOMEONE LIKE YOU Sarah Dessen, 4 stars
More of a young adult book, but anyone who wants a glimpse back at their high school years will surely enjoy this novel. Also about friendship, a young girl finds herself in quite a predicament one summer. It all starts out while she's away at camp and her best friend's boyfriend is killed in a car accident. She rushes home to console her, and they open themselves up to a whole set of problems for the next nine months. Her best friend is pregnant by her dead boyfriend, her mother is a therapist who never listens to what she says and doesn't allow her to make her own choices and disapproves her boyfriend, and she then ends up in an accident herself while disobeying her mother. One of Dessen's best works! I couldn't put it down!

JIMMY'S GIRL by Stephanie Gertler, 5 stars

BEARGULCHCABIN@aol.com
THE LEFT BEHIND SERIES by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, 5 stars
They are about the end times as predicted in the Bible. There are currently eight books with the nineth one coming out this summer. They are engaging, frightful, truthful and totally enthralling. If you like sci-fi with a twist of the real, you will like these books. If you are a Christian and are looking forward to the second coming of Christ you also will like these. They will keep you looking forward to next book.

HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG by Andre Dubus III, 5 stars
It kept me so engrossed that I had a hard time putting it down. At times I felt so much compassion for all parties involved.

THE KINGSLEY HOUSE by Arliss Ryan, 5 stars
I loved this book. I wanted to keep reading it, never wanting it to end. A must read book if you haven't read it. I recommend you do.

A WALK TO REMEMBER by Nicholas Parks, 5 stars
A wonderful book that had such a touching ending, such love and compassion, I hated for it to end.

CRUEL TALES by Villiers de L'Isle-Adam (translated from the French by Robert Baldick), 2 stars
19th century French short stories. Tough going. Perhaps loses something in the translation

THE HOURS by Michael Cunningham, 3 stars
Poetic novella about Virginia Woolf, a modern New York woman whose nickname is "Mrs. Dalloway," and a woman in 1940s California who is a compulsive reader. Won the Pulitzer.

JULIAN THE APOSTATE by G.W. Bowersock - 4 stars
Bowersock separates fact from fiction, with outstanding results.

THE PRAISE SINGER by Mary Renault, 3 stars
Entertaining, but not up to Renault's previous work.
