RELIC by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
RELIQUARY by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
The story of a creature roaming the New York Museum of Natural History. Scary!

POPPY AND DINGAN by Ben Rice, 5 stars
A delightful gem about a child with 2 imaginary playmates and a town's question of what is real and what is imagined

SUGAR by Bernice L. McFadden, 5+ stars
THE WARMEST DECEMBER by Bernice L. McFadden, 5+ stars
In the latter book be prepared for a dark novel of a child's growth in a family of alcoholism and abuse and her self-growth as her father lays dying. The characters are searing, the pain palpable and it is a book you will not put down or walk away from easily... Trust me on the former, everyone I have recommended it to just loves it..

THE BODY ARTIST by Don DeLillo, 5 stars
If one could write pure poetry in novella form, DeLillo has done it. His short work tastes good in the mouth and intrigues the mind. Enter the world of a man and woman sharing breakfast, and leave breathless. Every reader should grace their shelf with a copy of DeLillo's work. Masterful.

HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Z. Danielewski, 5 stars
An amazing novel with so many different levels to explore and unravel.

RG1202@aol.com
THE GIRLS HE ADORED by Jonathan Nasaw, 5 stars
A creepy psychological thriller that you will thoroughly enjoy. As long as you don't mind nightmares.

LOSING JULIA by Jonathan Hull, 5 stars
A beautifully written first novel that will stay with you for a long time.

AN HOUR BEFORE DAYLIGHT by Jimmy Carter
Interesting and very endearing account of his early childhood. To read where he came from and who shaped his life is fascinating considering he went on to become President.

RicBa936@aol.com
SOFT FOCUS by Jayne Ann Krentz, 3 stars
THE SECOND SON by Charles Sailor, 5 stars
It is currently out of print but you can usually find it in second hand bookstores. It is among my all time favorite reads.

CONSIDERING KATE by Nora Roberts, 4 stars
I just finished reading it and she is a favorite author of mine.

MR. PERFECT by Linda Howard, 5 stars
THE BREAKER by Minette Walters, 3 stars
It's my newest read and currently has 3 stars (I haven't finished it yet!!)

MysteryNut19@aol.com
DRIVEN by W.G. Griffiths, 3 stars
Police detective personally motivated  to hunt down a murderer. Interesting religious take on motivation for serial killing. Not quite as spooky as Koontz books.

darend@erols.com
HARRY POTTER series by J. K. Rowling, 5 stars
They are great books.  Loved them.

EPaton@aol.com
MERRICK by Anne Rice, 4 stars
I just started it but already I'm hooked. Why? Two reasons, 1) It's classic Rice, 2) It's narrated by David Talbot and only those who have read the vampire novels of hers will know who he is. Furthermore, Lestat, and Louis are also in it. It has Anne Rice's richness of expression. When reading you feel like you are in the room with David just as when reading INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, it felt like you were in the room with Lestat. When Anne Rice describes something, I get a vivid mental picture, so vivid in fact, that I feel as if I am there and that is what makes reading Annie Rice so exciting. I can't wait to get more into it.

HE CHOSE THE NAILS by Max Lucado, 5 stars
This book is the BEST book I've ever read! AWESOME! It's worth reading over and over. I'm still getting great joy while reading it for the third time.

THE MESSENGER by Robin Valaitis Heflin, 4 stars
John Metcalf visits dead people. Unfortunately spiritual consultants have been given a bad name so an honest man with a gift of helping has to lie to keep the woman he loves. When the lies come back to haunt him, John has to deal with a true challenge--the world of the living. An entertaining, romantic first novel.

MEASURING LIVES by Tom Foley
This is Tom Foley's first book and it was great! John Geddy was a prosecuting attorney from Miami who was fired after he won the biggest case of his career - a conviction of the serial killer known as the South Beach Butcher.  Geddy was fired after his boss, the Miami State Attorney, accused him of being paranoid and delusional because Geddy thought he was being stalked. Geddy is then hired by a law firm in Naples, Fla - a hideaway for millionaires and celebrities.  Instead of murder cases, Geddy would be handling foreclosures and divorces.  When handling a trust fund case, Geddy uncovers a conspiracy to control a 40 million dollar fortune that was set into motion 20 years earlier with the murders of 5 women. These 5 women, thought to have been the victims of a serial killer, had only one thing in common.  They were the Measuring Lives.  This book is a real cliffhanger that is a fast paced thriller that is hard to put down once you start reading.  For all of those John Grisham fans, they should like this one too

THE RESCUE by Nicholas Sparks, 5 stars
This is the fourth book written by Nicholas Sparks.  It is a wonderful love story.  Have the tissues ready.  This would be a great weekend read for busy people.

LOSING JULIA by Jonathan Hull, 5 stars
I loved it.

Kuahji@aol.com
ULTIMATE JOURNEY by Robert Monroe, 5 stars
Robert Monroe, the ingenious founder of the "Monroe Institute."  His latest masterpiece will tantalize your inner soul leaving you with an insatiable desire for more.  Taking a sojourn to exotic worlds Monroe leaves an account of his astral excursions.  After reading ULTIMATE JOURNEY you'll want to astral project just for the thrill.  This book should be on shelf whether you are new to the astral world or frequent projectors.  Monroe's former magnum opus was FAR JOURNEYS & his first work of art JOURNEYS OUT OF THE BODY.  Yet the ULTIMATE JOURNEY tops all of his former work.  It ties in all past work on OBEs & just leaves you as the reader in a state of elation.  I strongly encourage people of from all levels of experience to buy a copy of ULTIMATE JOURNEY.

TOCATTA AND FUGUE by John F. Deane, 5 stars
I came across this slim volume via my quarterly post from Kenny's Bookshop in Galway, Ireland. I let it stand and steep on my shelves for a while, and sorry I did! The last poem of the volume, "Fugue", is an artistic tour de force. Deane works and shapes words, provoking emotion and what I call the "whew!" factor. His poem "Reynolds" takes the reader into a place few tread. Worthy of 5 stars? You bet.

FROM THE CORNER OF HIS EYE by Dean Koontz

SLOW HAND WOMEN WRITING EROTICA by Michele Slung, 4 stars

ANIL'S GHOST by Michael Ondaatje, 2 stars
Sorry, but I slogged through 185 pages of this slow moving novel because I was "supposed" to like it, but finally gave up.

GIRL IN HYACINTH BLUE by Susan Vreeland, 4 stars
Dutch author.  Tells of this painting by Vermeer and each subsequent owner.  Intriguing.

IN FIDELITY by M. J. Rose
Wonderfully engaging book of family dynamics, understandings and misunderstandings

A HEART OF STONE by Renate Dorrestein, 4 stars
Another Dutch author.  The story, looking back 25 years, of a tragedy that in modern times would have been prevented.  Gripping.

northsideco@lakemac.net
VERTIGO by W.G. Sebald
Translation lacks but gets the job done for expressions by a totally unique voice. A sharp and attentive observer of the human condition who takes good notes as "...we march to our deaths."

zaraya@home.com
I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE by Wally Lamb, 5 stars
Searing, poignant saga of a pair of twins, one of whom is schizophrenic.

EAST OF EDEN by John Steinbeck, 5 stars
Good and evil incarnate. A reread from my college days.

SONS AND LOVERS by D.H. Lawrence, 4 stars
The story of young man who must overcome his attachment to his mother. A reread from my college days.

BEACH MUSIC by Pat Conroy, 5 stars
The story of man's search for the reasons for his wife's suicide. Though set in modern times, it is also the story of the lasting effects of the Holocaust. Pat Conroy's prose is so lyrical it brought tears to my eyes. A bittersweet story of love and forgiveness. A must read.

WE WERE THE MULVANEYS by Joyce Carol Oates, 5 stars
I read this one years before Oprah ever even heard of it. The story of a family's dissolution after a daughter is raped.

THE CIDER HOUSE RULES by John Irving, 5 stars
Far better than the movie. These are characters to ponder, and to love.

DermGal@aol.com
CHOCOLAT by Joanne Harris, 3 stars
The character development was oftentimes weak, but the descriptions of the chocolate confections were divine!  An enjoyable read-- I haven't yet seen the movie...

TOONSK101@aol.com

GULLIVER'S TRAVELS: A WITNESS EXPLORATION OF HUMANITY by John C. Murray
This book is a must have for scholars and students alike. John Murray examines Swift's narrative within the context of recent social constructionist theory. Murray discusses the ideas of behavioral and ideological conformity in literature and society by setting up a paradigm for examining psychological stages of socialization. I have to admit that I have read quite a few scholarly works on Swift and found them leaving me with more questions than answers. Murray's book answers my questions thoroughly and provides insight on contemporary social theory. There is also a valuable bibliography in the book that should be of some help to students seeking reference material.
