MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL
by John Berendt, 4 stars
This true story reads more like a novel with colorful
characters abounding.
STONES FROM THE RIVER by Ursula Hegi,
5 stars
This is my second reading--love this book!

YADA, YADA, YADA.COM.org.edu.gov.email-What I learned
on the WWW/Internet-Total Nonsense by
Joan E. Miller, 4 stars
I thought this book was very entertaining. A great book
to read with a bunch of friends and have some great laughs.
GDurisin@aol.com
ROSES ARE RED by James Patterson, 3
stars
A story that started off strong, but copped out with an
ending that came from nowhere and didn't fit the characters
or plot line he'd developed. Is he trying to set the stage
so we'll all buy the sequel?
OuiNikita@aol.com
KILLING TIME by Caleb Carr, no rating
given
Currently reading.
BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES OF THE CENTURY
edited by John Updike, no rating given
This promises to be a real treat. I'm finding that a short
story really fills the bill when time is limited.

THE LEAP: A Memoir of Love and Madness in the Internet
Gold Rush by Tom Ashbrook, 5 stars
Wow! A splendid, deeply moving read for anyone contemplating
a life change, or just looking for a beautifully-told
adventure story. Romance and great action, all together.
Highly recommended!
MIKAELAM@prodigy.net
THE PILOT'S WIFE by Anita Shreve, 4
stars
A very good and suspenseful read. I like this book because
it makes you really think about your own relationship
and ask yourself "What if?"
BEVBOOKS@aol.com
BAD KARMA by Andrew Harper (aka Douglas
Clegg), 5 stars
I just finished this frightening story of man who worked
in a hospital for the Criminally Insane, and the escape
of a female "Hannibal Lechter." Edge of the seat suspense
as the escaped crazy pursues the protagonist. My hair
is still on end.
MOON MUSIC by Faye Kellerman, 5 stars
This one is a departure from her Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus
novels. Fast paced story of police procedure with some
abnormal psychology thrown in. You will love Romulus Poe,
her hero in this thriller.
QUEEN OF THE DAMNED by Anne Rice, 2
stars
I thought I should catch up on the vampire novels so I
could read her new one MERRICK in order. I don't know,
I just can't get into this one.... I really liked some
of her others. I may not be able to finish this one, it's
just too far-fetched, even for a true vampire fan.
UKHRH@aol.com
PLUM ISLAND by Nelson DeMille, 5 stars
Another great thriller from DeMille!
PRAYING FOR SLEEP by Jeffery Deaver,
5 stars
A thriller of immense proportions, all packed into one
evening of dangerous weather, malicious people and so
many delightful twist and turns, you'll shiver as you
eagerly turn each page!
Whimsey03@aol.com
STRONG POISON by Dorothy L. Sayers,
4 stars
My favorite mystery writer introduces the character of
Harriet Vane into the life, and the heart, of gentleman
sleuth, Lord Peter Wimsey. Very British, 1930's, literate,
and funny where you least expect it. (And not your typical
love story.)

Yada, Yada, Yada.com.org.edu.gov.email (Nonsense on
the Internet)
5 thumbs up for a great coffee-table, conversation starter
and nonsensical book
art80996@nus.edu.sg
SHUTTLECOCK by Graham Swift, 3 1/2 stars
An exploration of one's history, wonderfully structured.
Easy reading, you'd get drawn into the narrative with
Swift's fluid storytelling skills.
I MARRIED A COMMUNIST by Philip Roth,
4 stars
Not the usual political drama, but rather, a personal
insight into what ideology is --- how one fits ideology
into life, and how ideology fits one's life into its structure.
A challenge to conventional definetions. An eye-opener,
though rather heavy reading.
Booksagain@aol.com
A DRINK BEFORE THE WAR by Dennis Lehane,
5 stars
A fun, quick book, that will send you on a search for
Lehane's other books. I was online searching for his others
at 2 A.M.!
THE PORTABLE JACK KEROUAC Edited by
Ann Charters, 5 stars
This is a book I pick up at least once a month and always
find something new to read.
POP GOES THE WEASEL by James Patterson,
5 stars
Audio read by Keith David and Roger Rees.
Wcpainter@aol.com
CITIZEN WASHINGTON by William Martin,
5 stars
Another epic novel from one of the top historical fiction
writers!
mrydin@webtv.net
OUT TO LUNCH by Walt Crocker, 5 stars
A wonderful collection of zany and offbeat characters.
This book chronicles one man's frenzied journey through
minimum wage employment, street people, depression, and
suicide. The book covers the whole swing of emotions like
a manic depressive carnival ride. I found myself laughing
one moment then tearful the next...then not knowing the
difference.

POP GOES THE WEASEL by James Patterson,
5 stars
I've always enjoy his books. EXCELLENT

the throws of the idiosyncrasies of cultures in the past!

reader.

RACIST AMERICA: Roots, Current Realities, and Future
