SING THE FOUR QUARTERS
by Tanya Huff, 5 stars
I'm a big fan of Huff's mystery series featuring ex-cop
Vicki Nelson and vampire Henry Fitzroy. I just discovered
this first book in a fantasy series. If they are all as
good as this one, I've got some great reading ahead.
MURDER OF A SMALL-TOWN HONEY by Denise
Swanson, 4 1/2 stars
This is the first book in a cozy mystery series. Very
well written and funny. A very promising debut for a newly
published author.
ANGELS OF ANGUISH by Sherri Board, 3
1/2 stars
This is Sherri's first published mystery. Wonderful characters.
I guarantee the first few pages will bring tears to your
eyes. Very emotional.

SACRED HELIX by Mark M. Garon, 5 stars
It was awesome. It was intriguing from start to finish
and the ending was shocking. It is about a secret cloning
experiment to bring back Christ by using His DNA from
the Shroud of Turin. I couldn't put it down. For now it
is exclusively available at iuniverse.com. This was great
fiction reading.

THE THIRTEENTH HOUR by Barbara Sofer,
5 stars
A little terrorism, a little terrorism, Israeli-Arab relations.
Cornyi@aol.com
THE REASON WHY by Cecil Woodham-Smith,
4 stars
Great history of the Charge of the Light Brigade.
ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY by David Sedaris,

THE CARETAKER by Thomas William Simpson,

A fabulous memoir.
DROWNING RUTH by Christina Schwarz,
5 stars
HOST BKPG Lady@aol.com
JULIE AND ROMEO by Jeanne Ray, 4 stars
Lovely romance between two 60-year-old florists. Certainly
would indicate that there IS life after "the pause that
defreshens."
MY GRANDFATHER'S BLESSINGS by Ruth Naomi
Remen, 4 stars
Wonderfully wise, beautifully written stories by the author
of Kitchen Table Wisdom.
AVIDREADER1019@aol.com
THE PACT by Jodi Picoult, 5 stars
Modern day Romeo and Juliet with a twist.
HARVESTING THE HEART by Jodi Picoult,
5 stars
Single motherhood and its challenges...superb.

A page turner about money and people...very good.

Police thriller...excellent.

NIGHTWORLD by F. Paul Wilson (horror)
5 stars
Conclusion to Wilson's outstanding "Adversary Cycle" comprised
of The Keep, The Tomb, The Touch, Reborn, Reprisal, and
Nightworld.
GARDEN OF EVIL by Edna Buchanan (mystery)
4 stars
Most recent Britt Montero book, probably her most chilling.
PURPLE CANE ROAD by James Lee Burke
(mystery) 4 stars
Most recent Dave Robicheaux book. Beautiful writing but,
like a lot of Burke's recent work, the plot seems too
broad.
MANDARIN PLAID by S.J. Rozan (mystery)
4 stars
Terrific mystery set in New York City's fashion world,
featuring Lydia Chin and Bill Smith.
SAPPHO (poems by Sappho, translated
by Mary Barnard) 5 stars
Powerful poems by one of the few women poets in Ancient
Greece whose work is still around in some form.
WHOO? by Richard Hoyt (mystery) 2 stars
The setting, Washington and Oregon, was interesting, as
was the premise (endangered owls and the murder of a wild-life
service worker). The main character, however, was annoying
and unrealistic.
SAVAGE SEASON by Joe R. Lansdale (suspense) 3 stars.
THE BLITHEDALE ROMANCE by Nathaniel
Hawthorne (fiction) 5 stars.
COME TWILIGHT by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro
(horror) 5 stars
Yarbro's most recent Count Saint-Germain novel, an excellent
historical spanning 500 years of Spanish history.

I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF by Bill Bryson,
5 stars
Written by the author of The Lost Continent and A Walk
in the Woods. Bryson never ceases to amaze me.
OuiNikita@aol.com
THE NIGHT LISTENER by Armistead Maupin,
5 stars
This book about relationships on many levels was often
suspenseful and always a page turner.

RAISING CAIN: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys
by Daniel Kindlon, 5 stars
If you are the parent of a son of ANY age, this book is
invaluable. It really offers insight (and advice) into
the hearts and minds and emotional souls of boys.
UNCOMMON SENSE FOR PARENTS WITH TEENAGERS
by Michael Riera, Ph.D., 4 stars
It is a daunting task raising a "sane" teenager these
days. It is even more daunting staying sane yourself!
Dr. Riera gives some very good advice on ways to communicate
with your teen and ways to keep the communication respectful.
He also recommends we stop giving advice unless asked
by our teens to do so.
TEENS IN TURMOIL by Carol Maxym, Ph.D.,
and Leslie York, 5 stars
Indispensable! The most informative book on the market
if you have a "teen in turmoil" and are wondering which
way to turn next.
STRAIGHT TALK ABOUT PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATIONS FOR KIDS
by Timothy Wilens, M.D., 5 stars
If you have an emotionally disabled child, this is a must
read! Don't just let the doctors tell you what "meds"
are the best for your child, make an informed decision.
Dr. Wilens not only talks, in layman's terms, about the
different medications but also about the different disorders
that are striking so many of our young people.
TWO FOR THE DOUGH by Janet Evanovich,
4 stars
A "fun" read for those interested in female P.I./bounty
hunter books with a sense of humor. This is the second
book in a series of about 6 by this author and her main
character is a wise-cracking New Jersey bounty hunter
named Stephanie Plum. A great "escape" book.

THE WITCHING HOUR by Anne Rice, 5 stars
This is the first Anne Rice book I've read. Wonderfully
dense story. Great character development.
Carol@bookreporter.com
FOUR BLONDES by Candace Bushnell, 1
star (if I must)
This is the first book in months that I have not finished.
It was just too sad and depressing. These four women are
just pathetic. I suppose I could have fun trying to figure
what New York babes she patterned them after, but to be
honest, I really found myself not even caring.
DEAR STRANGER, DEAREST FRIEND by Laney
Katz Becker, 5 stars
I fell in love with this book. It's written in e-mail
format and, as a result, is very quick reading. It also
is laced with the intimacy that can come from an e-mail
written note. Sadly, I have had a number of friends who
have undergone mastectomies and chemo. But I admit that
I had no idea what actually happened during the surgery
and recovery. This book gives that information as well
as the story of two very brave women and the bond between
them. Definitely inspiration |
