Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Kevin O’Brien's FINAL BREATH.

Barbara from Bethel Park, PA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
I have read all but one, and it is sitting here waiting for me to read it.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
The list is very long since this is my favorite genre to read, so here are a few that I love: Tami Hoag, Alex Kava, Ridley Pearson, Phillip Margolin, Rick Mofina, Michael Connelly, Erica Spindler, Lisa Jackson, John Lescroart, Kay Hooper, Greg Iles, David Baldacci and Jeffery Deaver.

What did you think of FINAL BREATH?
I loved it. It kept me guessing who the real killer was. I thought it was well thought out and organized. I was a bit unhappy when one character died, but I think to move the story along it had to happen. I was also up a lot later than I should have been, but I had to keep turning the pages to find out who did it.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes. I hope he is working on the next one.

Bob from Attleboro, MA

No, FINAL BREATH was my first.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read a number of authors such as James Patterson, Lisa Scottoline, Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwell, David Baldacci, Tami Hoag, Nelson DeMille, Clive Cussler, Nevada Barr, Tess Gerritsen, Kathy Reichs, and Linda Fairstein, plus many others.

What did you think of FINAL BREATH?
I thought it was a very intriguing and irresistible book. This was the first book by Kevin O’Brien that I have read and found it to be excellent. The twists and turns in the storyline, as well as the introduction of different situations throughout the book, kept my interest and made me want to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. It was very hard to put down.

This was not your standard serial-killer novel. The author wove a tale that was difficult to predict and it kept my attention throughout. Great job.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes, absolutely.

Jeannie from Milroy, PA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No, I haven't. I will now be looking at my library book sales for his books. I have a list from the front of this book that I will be looking for.

What other suspense/thriller authors do I usually read?
John Grisham, James Patterson, Harlan Coben, Iris Johansen, Mary Higgins Clark, Nora Roberts, and many more.

What did you think of Final Breath?
I read the inside cover and was hooked immediately. It was suspenseful from beginning to end and I had a hard time putting it down. There were a couple mysteries going on in the one book, family troubles and relationship problems. I was torn between a couple people as suspects, but I was right in the end. It had an excellent storyline; I was a little disappointed with the ending, but glad about how things tied up for Kyle. What a terrific novel!

Would you read a future book by Kevin O'Brien?
Absolutely!

Patricia from Yuba City, CA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No I have not.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
A few of my favorite authors are Nelson DeMille, Daniel Silva, Vince Flynn, John Harvey, Peter Robinson, Harlan Coben, Linda Fairstein and David Baldacci.

What did you think of FINAL BREATH?
I found it to be an uneven read. I found the slasher-type opening to be off-putting for me. The depiction of the poor murdered girl as being shallow and self-absorbed was unnecessary. It was as though (to me) the author didn’t want the reader to have any sympathy for Erin being killed.

I also didn’t see why Eli visited the fortune-teller. In my mind, it didn’t accomplish anything; in fact, the whole “ghost in the apartment” was distracting and I felt didn’t add anything to the plot. If the idea was to keep Eli busy, or find something of interest to distract him --- that didn’t work for me.

I liked the Sydney Jordan character and the rest of the plot did hold my interest.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
I’m not sure.

Tia from Collinsville, AL

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
I have not previously read anything by Mr. O'Brien.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Suspense authors I read are Stephen J. Cannell, Nelson Demille, Nora Roberts and anything by James Patterson, among others too numerous to name.

What did you think of FINAL BREATH?
To be honest, it took me a few days to really get into FINAL BREATH, but after struggling through a few chapters, I couldn't put it down. The concept and storyline were interesting. The plot was different from any I have read before, which was refreshing. At times, a couple of the characters were a little annoying in the way that they were stereotyped, but I read on. Overall, it was a pretty good book and I would recommend it to my friends who enjoy suspense/thrillers.

Really, the only problem I had with FINAL BREATH was that at times, the flashbacks got me confused with what was happening in the story's real time. Granted, there were a few flashbacks that made the plot more suspenseful, but I thought some of them kind of bogged the story down.

But, overall, I did enjoy FINAL BREATH. It had a "killer" ending that was totally unexpected. I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. It's the story of a bad guy with pretty twisted means of getting close to his or her (I'm not giving it away) victims, and concludes with a "happy ending." I do recommend reading FINAL BREATH.

Anita from North Barrington, IL

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I regularly read Lee Child (my favorite author), John Sanford, James Patterson, Tess Gerristen and Harlan Coben. Thrillers are my favorite types of books.

What did you think of FINAL BREATH?
The only other book by Kevin O’Brien that I have read is ONE LAST SCREAM. Both of these books started out extremely spooky and interesting, and then fell apart. I did not like any of the characters and practically cheered for the “bad guy.” There was nothing realistic about either Eli or Sydney and I do know how to suspend reality to a point. I totally disliked both of them and their constant stupidity. I won’t read any more of O’Brien’s book.

Jean from Salt Lake City, UT

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Michael Connelly, John Grisham, Robert Parker, Lisa Scottoline, J. A. Jance, and James Patterson.

What did you think of Final Breath?
I thought it was just an okay read. For some reason, I just couldn't get into the story. I had a problem with the characters in the novel not following their warning instincts and ignoring the signs of danger. I kept thinking, how could they be that stupid? However, Kevin's style was very readable and the storyline moved along at a nice pace.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O'Brien?
Probably not.
