Carla Neggers answers readers' questions about the inspiration behind her picturesque Vermont setting in A SINGLE THREAD and future installments in her Black Falls series.

Sherrie from Redmond, WA: How did you pick the location for this story?

Carla Neggers: Jo Harper and Elijah Cameron helped! They just had to be from small-town northern New England, and the contrasts of Vermont --- the beauty of the mountains and the dangers they can present --- worked for them and the story. Living in Vermont myself made the setting feel even more natural.

Cathy from Aldan, PA: Obviously you love Vermont. Was Black Falls based on any of your favorite places?

Carla Neggers: Vermont truly is a beautiful place, and some of the scenery and buildings in Black Falls were at least inspired by real places. For example, the building of the Three Sisters Cafe is very similar to the one where my husband and I have an office! And the fictional waterfall on Cameron Mountain is a bit like Hamilton Falls, one of my favorite Vermont sights (and not that easy to find). Then there's the ridge road with the maple trees... and the river... and --- well, research for COLD PURSUIT was easy since I live here in Vermont!

Michelle from Columbus, GA: Will there be other stories set in Black Falls, Vermont? I personally loved the setting there. Will Jo, Elijah or any of the Harpers or Camerons be in any future stories?

Carla Neggers: Yes! COLD PURSUIT is the first in the series. We'll get to see more of the Harpers, Camerons, Grit, Myrtle and meddlesome Charlie Neal. I leave some loose ends to tie up in COLD RIVER, which I'm writing now. I'm having a blast --- watch for it next November.

Rosemary from Ocala, FL: Do you have any series titles or books with recurring characters?

Carla Neggers: COLD PURSUIT is the first in what I'm calling my Black Falls series. Next up for me is THE MIST, which comes out in hardcover next July. It features new and recurring characters first introduced in THE WIDOW (out now in paperback) and THE ANGEL (out now in hardcover and due out in paperback in June). These books are set in Boston, Maine and Ireland... Boston detectives, FBI agents... and a touch of Irish folklore. If you want more information, just go to my website and click on "reading order." I try to keep it up to date. The books can be read out of order, but some readers prefer to read them chronologically. I would be that type of reader myself.
