Excellent. It had a taut and tense plot. It managed to be intricate and believable, which is something most thrillers strive for but seem to inevitably fail at.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?

What did you think of A COLD DARK PLACE?
I liked A COLD DARK PLACE. I wanted Emily Kenyon to find her daughter and solve the case. I cheered for her while also wanting everything to work out for her and her daughter. I also liked the other characters from Emily’s past and present, intermingled into the storyline. It was interesting how her past case clues helped her on the present one. The conflict between being a mom and a cop were interesting. Gregg Olsen made me understand the emotions involved.
Would you ever read a future book by Gregg Olsen?
I can’t wait! As a related note, I read the chapter to HEART OF ICE that was included as a bonus in the last pages of Gregg Olsen’s book, A COLD DARK PLACE, and was pleased that it included the same detective, Emily Kenyon.

What did you think of A COLD DARK PLACE?
I loved it! I'm a big fan of serial-killer novels and this was a terrific thriller! Not to mention that the killer makes a stop in Iowa, where I live. That's always fun to see.
I also read the beginning of the next story at the end of this book, and was excited to see that Emily and Jenna Kenyon are returning.

Absolutely! I'm looking forward to the next book that appears to feature Emily Kenyon and a more mature Jenna.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
My favorite authors in this genre are Andrew Gross, James Patterson and Dean Koontz.
What did you think of A COLD DARK PLACE?
I thought the book was chopped up quite a bit. I became confused a couple of times over certain characters who were only mentioned sporadically. I was not able to figure out who (or how many people) was/were the true serial killer(s), or why certain groups of people were killed at all; there seemed to be no motive, and I felt Gregg was leading up to a motive, but I could not piece one together. Frequently the overly descriptive paragraphs took away any feelings of fear that might have overtaken me otherwise.... I like to have a slow-but-steady increase in my "fear factor" throughout the reading of a mystery novel (the "I couldn't put it down" factor), and that buildup disappointingly didn't occur.
Would you ever read a future book by Gregg Olsen?
Not unless the writing style improves!
