Stephen White

Fast Facts:

  • Stephen was born on Long Island. He grew up in New York, New Jersey, and Southern California.

  • Stephen was a creative writing major at University of California-Irvine --- for three weeks. He later graduated from University of California-Berkeley in 1972, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in 1979.

  • Prior to his careers as a clinical psychologist and a novelist, Stephen worked as a Universal Studios tour guide, cook, waiter and bartender.

  • Stephen was a practicing clinical psychologist when he began writing his first book, PRIVILEGED INFORMATION, in 1989. This novel introduced readers to Dr. Alan Gregory.

  • One of Stephen's psychologist colleagues was psychologist/author Jonathan Kellerman. When they met, they were "two of only about a dozen psychologists in the country working in pediatric oncology."

  • The Alan Gregory series is set in Boulder, CO, where Stephen lived on and off for 15 years. Its latest installment is DEAD TIME.

  • In his books, Stephen draws upon over 15 years of clinical practice as a psychologist to create intriguing plots and complex, believable characters.

  • Stephen's first New York Times bestseller was HARM'S WAY.

  • Stephen White, the suspense novelist, is sometimes rumored to be Stephen White, author of the Barney books and scripts. They are two different authors.
