About the Book

Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Kevin O’Brien's ONE LAST SCREAM.

J. Kaye from Baton Rouge, LA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No, ONE LAST SCREAM was my introduction to this author.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Most of the books I read are thrillers. I love David Baldacci, James Grippando, Lee Child, Brian Freeman, Tess Gerritsen, Thomas Harris, Brett Battles, R. M. Kinder, Michael Simon, Chris Mooney, Thomas O'Callaghan, Joseph Finder, David Hosp, Jeff Lindsay, John Grisham, Harlan Coben, Andrew Gross, Lee Vance, Michael Connelly, and Robert Crais. I am sure I am missing a few authors. Oh --- Kevin O’Brien can now be added to this list!

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
What a book! If I could use one word to describe it, it would be “wow.” So much was packed into a paperback!

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Guaranteed! This is a fabulous author!

Jackie from Sun Valley, CA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
This is the first book by Kevin O'Brien that I've had to pleasure to read. He will rank up there with my favorites by Gayle Lynds, Kathy Reichs, Jeffery Deaver, Robert Liparulo and Simon Beckett. I would definitely enjoy reading any former and future books by this author.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
ONE LAST SCREAM is a highly readable book. The first pages hook you immediately with a frightening flashback scene. Then the author plunges you into the present action where an indefinable menace hovers around a nineteen-year-old girl with an alcohol problem. Slowly, and with exquisite agony, the chilling truth emerges.

The author keeps the suspense high by alternating glimpses of brutal murders in the past and cold-blooded killings in the present, and by placing his main characters in increasing jeopardy. There are times (as in old gothic romances) that you will scream at the heroine, "No! Don't do that! Don't go there!"

Finally, O'Brien brings the flashbacks and present action together in a terrifying and suspenseful climax that will leave you breathless. His denouement and conclusion are thoroughly satisfying and will allow you to catch your breath before turning the final page.

Janice from Hicksville, NY

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes, I read KILLING SPREE.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Although I tried a number of authors, some of whom were very good, I do not hesitate to read James Patterson, Michael Connelly and Nelson DeMille.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
I enjoyed the book very much. I don't want to give too much away, but I enjoy the way he developed the split-personality aspect of the story.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O'Brien?
Yes, definitely. There is a consistency in his style of writing. There are a lot of twists and turns, and the reader is always trying to guess the outcome. Throughout the book, the author adds clues that will slowly bring you to the conclusion, but not without a surprise here and there.

Marsha from Macon, GA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
I haven’t previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien. I must tell you that I am on my way to the bookstore first thing in the morning to purchase all of his earlier works.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
John Sanford, James Patterson, John Grisham, Ann Rule, and Nora Roberts.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
I loved ONE LAST SCREAM.  In fact, I could not put it down! It is indeed a page turner!

I would purchase it as soon as it was released.

Robert from Belvidere, NJ

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Robert Ferrigno, Steve Berry, and Jeffery Deaver.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
A slow start, but the pace picked up speed. The early confusing plot points were nicely tied up at the end.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes.

Shiela from Schoolcraft, MI

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No, so I was very happy to have the opportunity to read one of his books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Elizabeth George and Clive Cussler.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
I liked it. It kept me turning the pages past my bedtime! It took a couple of twists that I hadn’t expected, but the ending was a little too perfect, in my opinion.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes.

Sue from The Woodlands, TX

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
No one in particular. I use various book lists for selections. I do not read Stephen King --- his type of thriller is not my style.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
I enjoyed it. I would give it an 8 1/2 out of 10. It’s written for an adult. There was very good suspense throughout the whole book. It kept my attention until the end; great plot development.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes, he can write a good book. I would not hesitate to pick up another one.

Vicki from Longview, TX

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No, this is the first one of his that I’ve read.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Lee Child and Thomas Perry.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
I liked it. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
Yes.

Alice from Wynnewood, PA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No, I have never read a book by Kevin O'Brien and I think it's great the way you introduce folks to authors they may not have read before.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read a mix of suspense fiction: James Patterson, Greg Iles, Peter Straub, Judith McNaught, Lisa Jackson, and Sandra Brown. I also like crime novels with a heavy dose of female humor like Janet Evanovich and Gemma Halliday.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
ONE LAST SCREAM kept me reading, and the use of the little girl with the man was eerie and effective. But, I like to have a main character I really care about and I could have used a more clearly defined protagonist.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
Yes, I'd give Kevin O'Brien another try. He clearly writes like a male, and I have a hunch his books with male protagonists would be more convincing. Tim in LEFT FOR DEAD sounds interesting.

Roger from Erie, PA

Have you previously read a book by Kevin O’Brien?
No

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
James Patterson, Robin Cook, and Dean Koontz.

What did you think of ONE LAST SCREAM?
ONE LAST SCREAM started very slowly. By the time I got to page 100, I was hoping the killer would get all of the main characters so I could stop reading. Although the book got better after that, it still had a predictable ending.

Would you ever read a future book by Kevin O’Brien?
I'm not sure. There would have to be a lot of good talk about it before I would even think about it.
