J.D. Robb

Fast Facts:

  • J.D. Robb’s real name is Nora Roberts. The first initials were
taken from Nora's sons Jason and Dan, while Robb is a shortened form of her last name.

  • In 1995, Nora created the J.D. Robb pseudonym because she was convinced that readers would enjoy romantic suspense with “a twist.” She and her publisher were content to let the Robb books build slowly with very little tie-in to the Nora Roberts's style of romantic suspense.

  • Nora was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, the youngest of five children.

  • Nora met her second husband, Bruce Wilder, when she hired him to build bookshelves. They were married in July, 1985.

  • Nora’s first book, IRISH THOROUGHBRED, was published by Silhouette in 1981. Since then, she has written more than 170 novels under both her real name and her pseudonym.

  • Nora released her first novel as J.D. Robb in 1995, entitled NAKED IN DEATH.

  • Nora has written 25 novels in the New York Times bestselling
futuristic, suspenseful In Death series under the name J.D. Robb.

  • There are more than 300 million copies of Nora’s books in print.

  • Over the last 25 years, an average of 21 books by Nora were sold every minute.

  • There are enough of Nora's books in print to fill the seats of Giants Stadium nearly 4,000 times.

  • If you place all Nora’s books top to bottom, they would stretch across the United States from Los Angeles to New York City 10 times.

  • Nora has won countless awards from her colleagues and the publishing industry. She is also the first author to receive the Centennial Award when she published her 100th novel, MONTANA SKY.
