QUESTIONS FROM READERS

Joseph Finder answers readers' questions about the history and future of POWER PLAY's main character, Jake Landry, his interest in NASCAR and the expected release date of his next book.

Becky from Valley Grande, AL: I love Jake Landry and think he is a wonderful character. Do you have any plans to write any more books featuring him?

Joseph Finder: No, I don't think so. I love the character, but I see him as a guy with a character arc --- a transformation --- that can only happen once. But my new book will feature continuing characters in a series, and I think you'll love them just as much. Thanks!

Crystal from Beaufort, NC: You obviously are a NASCAR fan due to one scene in the book. I'm curious as to whether you feel jaded about NASCAR now like the characters seemed to be. And were you an Earnhardt fan and are you now a Little E fan? By the way, it was great to read that scene --- you took the words right out of the mouths of a lot of longtime NASCAR fans!

Joseph Finder: Hi Crystal, glad you enjoyed that NASCAR stuff. I follow NASCAR some, but not as closely as Russell or Jake did. I just thought it would be a good way for the two of them to bond, to see how similar their interests are --- which I thought would make their relationship even more tangled.

Debbie from Gulf Breeze, FL: Why did you feel the need to bring up Jake's past throughout the book? I kept looking for the significance of this and must admit (though somewhat embarrassed) that I could not come up with an acceptable answer on my own.

Joseph Finder: Because without understanding Jake's past history, you'd never really get to know Jake enough to know why he acted the way he did. And given how fast the story moved, the only way for us to learn about his back story was to introduce a few choice flashbacks.

Jonathan from Vienna, VA: When is your next book coming out?

Joseph Finder: Good question! Next year, I think. Or at the very latest, the beginning of '09.
