Barry Eisler
Fast Facts:
- Barry has always held a fascination for “forbidden knowledge.” After reading a biography of Harry Houdini as a child, he marveled at the possibility that one could acquire knowledge that could possibly make someone dangerous.
- Barry studies various forms of martial arts, including western boxing and wrestling, Japanese judo and karate and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
- Barry worked for three years with the CIA. There, he was trained in small arms, long arms, hand-to-hand combat, improvised explosive devices, small water craft, air drops to friendly forces, surveillance, counter-surveillance, counter-terrorism, agent recruitment and management and interrogation and manipulation techniques.
- In 1993, Barry moved to Tokyo to train intensively at the Kodakan International Judo center, as well as to immerse himself in the language, country and culture. That image became the basis for his first novel, RAIN FALL.

- Barry currently lives and works in the San Francisco Bay area, but still frequently travels to Asia.
