Wendy Corsi Staub
Fast Facts:
Wendy Corsi Staub
- Wendy grew up in western New York State, surrounded by her large, close-knit Italian-Catholic family. With her parents, brother, and sister, she lived within a five-block radius of both sets of grandparents, and dozens of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most of them remain in her hometown today, and though she lives in the New York city suburbs 450 miles away, she visits often.
- When Wendy’s third grade teacher praised her first essay, she decided to become an author when she grew up. Years later, after that dream had become a reality, she was able to locate her teacher, retired and living in Florida, and thank her for the encouragement. They remain e-mail pals to this day.
- Before becoming an author, Wendy was a romance novel editor for a major Manhattan Publishing house. To pay the bills, she also worked, at various times, as a bookstore clerk, office temp, telemarketer, book doctor, copywriter, writing instructor and freelance reader for Redbook magazine’s fiction editor.
- Wendy’s first novel, SUMMER LIGHTNING --- a gothic ghost story for young adults --- won the coveted Rita award, Romance Writers of America’s version of the Oscar.
- Wendy also writes under the names Wendy Morgan, Wendy Brody, and Wendy Markham.
- Wendy has published books in various genres, including suspense, horror, historical and contemporary romance, TV and movie tie-in, and biography. She also co-authored a mystery series with Ed Koch, the former mayer of New York.
- Wendy has lost her mother, mother-in-law, and an aunt to breast cancer. She now actively supports several organizations that advocate victim support and research toward a cure for this devastating disease.
- Wendy’s neighbors teasingly call her “Martha” because she loves to spend her spare time cooking, gardening, doing crafts and entertaining friends.
- Wendy and her husband Mark have vowed to take their two children to all fifty states, plus Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, before 2013. They’re about halfway through and this year, traveling by plane, train, ship, and car, they will add nine more to the tally --- including Alaska!
