Karen Robards
Fast Facts:
- Karen published her first book at the age of 24, while attending law school. She has since written 33 more and one novella.
- While attending a graduate-level creative writing class at the University of Kentucky, Karen was given the assignment of writing 50 pages of "something publishable." After visiting her local bookstore for ideas on what was currently selling well, she penned an historical romance titled The Pirate's Woman, which --- to her embarrassment --- she was forced to read in front of the class. Those 50 pages eventually became the opening chapters of her first published novel, ISLAND FLAME.
- Karen's first romantic suspense novel, TO LOVE A MAN, was hand-written on a yellow legal pad during her lunch hour in the ladies' room of the orthodontic office where she worked. Inspired by her surroundings, the opening scene takes place in an outhouse.
- Karen's 1987 romantic suspense novel NIGHT MAGIC features a pet cat named Puff, which was jokingly named after her sister Lee Ann and her "Dolly Parton" hair.
- Karen does most of her writing between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm, while her children are at school.
- Karen cites Georgette Heyer, Mary Stewart, Phyllis Whitney, Victoria Holt and Mary Higgins Clark as her literary influences.
- Karen currently lives with her husband, their 3 sons, 3 dogs and 3 cats in Louisville, KY.
