Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about David Morrell's SCAVENGER.

Danny from Double Oak, TX

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
Yes, I read CREEPERS last year.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
F. Paul Wilson, Dean Koontz, and Michael Crichton.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
I enjoyed it a lot. I liked CREEPERS better, but you can't expect an author to write a Stoker Award-winning book every time.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
Yes, I will buy his next book whenever it comes out, and I plan on going back and reading his older novels too.

Judith from Ocilla, GA

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
Yes.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
John Sandford, James Patterson, Thomas Harris (hated HANNIBAL RISING), Dean Koontz, Stephen King and just about any suspense writer you can think of.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
Enthralled from first paragraph. I really liked it, but it was a little strange, though.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
Yes.

Mary Anne from Richfield, MN

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
I have never read a book by David Morrell.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I have read James Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, Lillian Jackson Braun, and Stephen King.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
I enjoyed the story and it kept my interest. I liked the mystery of the town disappearing with all inhabitants best.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
Yes, I would read another book by this author. Thanks for the opportunity to read this.

Michael from Collingswood, NJ

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
No, this is my first one.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child, Clive Cussler, Jack Du Brul, Matthew Reilly, Joseph Finder and James Patterson.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
It was suspenseful, with very interesting characters. The information on time capsules was educational, not to mention lots of fun. I especially enjoyed reading the author's explanation of how he developed his ideas for the book --- I wish more authors would "take a page" from him (pl. forgive the pun) and let us poor readers know more about the writing process. Morrell keeps the reader's interest until the very last page. A bit short, though --- a very quick read, but great for a weekend!

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
Sure, I enjoyed SCAVENGER! In fact, I'm already planning to read CREEPERS!

Michael from Kendall Park, NJ

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
I have read David Morrell's novels since FIRST BLOOD in the early 1970s.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Lee Child, Brian Haig, David Hagberg, John Grisham, Harlan Coben, Brian Garfield and Frederick Forsyth, among others.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
SCAVENGER was a very cleverly constructed and executed game of cat and mouse, built upon the supportable premise of human-scale versions of video games. Morrell got the story off to a roaring start and the plotting that followed was expert; his research was prodigious but it never overwhelmed the plot or the action, and his pacing of the story was just right, up to a denouement that was completely satisfying.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
I look forward eagerly to each new David Morrell novel, and SCAVENGER was no exception. It is a winner.

Sheral from Depew, NY

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
I have previously read David Morrell and loved his books, especially CREEPERS.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I also read Steve Berry, James Rollins, James Twinning, Stephen King, Dean Koontz and a lot more.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
SCAVENGER was a great book that was fast paced and very informative.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
I would definitely read another book of his. Thanks for opportunity to read this before it is offered to the public. I will be sure to pass it on to my friends.

Sue from Fairbanks, AK

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
Yes, I have read 10 of his previous books. I would consider myself a fan of David Morrell.

What other suspense/thrill authors do you read?
Stephen King, David Lindsey, Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Joe Hill and William Lashner.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
I enjoyed it --- it was a fast but exciting read. I was fascinated by the knowledge --- both in the book proper and in the afterward --- about time capsules. In fact, as soon as I finish this e-mail, plan to go look up some of the sites David Morrell recommended. [The book] was original and interesting, and was an interesting follow-up to CREEPERS, which I've also read.

Would I ever read a future book by David Morrell?
Yes, absolutely, no doubt. I'm looking forward to his next book.

Rhea from Campbell River, BC

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
No, I haven't read anything previously by David Morrell.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Love to read Dennis Lehane.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
I thought SCAVENGER was "OK" --- a little too fast-paced. [Morell] could have been more descriptive with the characters.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
Yes, I would read a future book by David Morrell.

Mike from Lincoln, CA

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
No, I had not read a David Morrell book until SCAVENGER.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I enjoy Stephen King, John Connolly, Elmore Leonard, Jeffery Deaver, Jack Ketchum, James Rollins, Joe Hill, Walter Mosley and anyone who looks good.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
Honestly, I thought it was going to be a much better book than it was. I do have to mention that I didn't read CREEPERS, which featured two of the main characters in SCAVENGER. I also felt that the lead character, Frank Balenger, has been done a number of times [before] with much better characterization and dialogue. The Game Master was a cool villain, but ended up following predictable mystery fiction trends. Good action in some parts kept it a page turner, though. Two stars out of five. Not Recommendable.

Would you ever read a future book by David Morrell?
I would have to check out the subject, and I might give it a try in paperback. But after reading SCAVENGER, he will not be an author whose books I look for.

Lynn from Oshkosh, WI

Have you previously read a book by David Morrell?
I have never read a book by David Morrell.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?

I read all the British detective writers as well as John Sandford, Patricia Cornwell, Jonathan Kellerman, James Lee Burke, Linda Fairstein, Marcia Muller, Barbara J. Parker, Laurie R. King and many more.

What did you think of SCAVENGER?
I really did not like SCAVENGER. The plot was weird, but I would have stuck with it if the writing had been better. I thought it was stilted and the conversations were so contrived. I did not finish this book. This is a rarity for me, because I'm usually "hooked" within the first chapter. I read all the time and listen to books on CD when I drive and on my MP3 player when I'm doing housework or stitching. Thanks for letting me evaluate this book.
