Michele Martinez
Fast Facts:
- Michele --- the daughter of Puerto Rican father and a Russian Jewish mother --- grew up in inner-city New Haven, Connecticut and attended public schools during the height of racial tensions and rioting in the late 1960s and 1970s.
- Michele attended Harvard University and Stanford Law School. She clerked for a federal judge and worked for a New York City law firm before taking a position as an Assistant U. S. Attorney in 1993, specializing in narcotics. She relies on those eight years of "insider knowledge" to fuel her writing.
- The opening scene in Michele's debut novel MOST WANTED, in which a townhouse fire kills a lawyer who may have been leading a double life, came to her in a dream.
- Michele's latest book COVER-UP is the third novel in a series featuring New York City Prosecutor Melanie Vargas. Previous installments include MOST WANTED and THE FINISHING SCHOOL.
- In COVER-UP, Melanie investigates the murder of a tabloid TV reporter. The plot was inspired by Michele's own experiences living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where she had an "inside peek into the lifestyles of the rich and famous."
