Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Tess Gerritsen's THE MEPHISTO CLUB.

Allan from Louisville, CO

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Thanks for the opportunity to review the book. This is my first read and will start [reading her previous books] very soon.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
James Patterson, Stuart Woods, John Grisham, J. D. Rhoades and Parnell Hall.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
This was a very well-written book with many twists and turns. The characters were well thought out and the story kept me wanting more. Parts of the book were gruesome and well played out. Loved it.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Very much so.

Bonnie from Lake Ronkonkoma, NY

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes, I have read THE SURGEON, THE SINNER, THE APPRENTICE and BODY DOUBLE. Thank you so much for letting me be a winner and for sending me [THE MEPHISTO CLUB]. As always, I thoroughly enjoy reading Tess Gerritsen's books.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Ms. Gerritsen is one of my favorite authors. I also enjoy reading James Patterson.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
As [with all of her books], it's suspenseful, descriptive and an excellent read.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Absolutely!

Fred from Hemlock, MI

Yes.

Jan from Paradise, CA

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
No, this was my first.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Patricia Cornwell, Faye Kellerman, James Patterson, Michael Crichton and Lilian Jackson Braun.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
Great reading. It really moved and I was completely wrong on my guess about the ending.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes. In fact, I can't wait to read more. Thank you for the wonderful read and for adding a new writer to my favorites list.

Kim from Westborough, MA

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes, I read VANISH and BODY DOUBLE.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Harlan Coben, Greg Iles and Dean Koontz.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
I loved it. The main plot was interesting and suspenseful, but I think what really made the book shine were the subplots (Maura and Daniel, Rizzoli's parents, etc). I also enjoyed the facts and history inserted into the narrative --- Biblical history, symbology, etc. Fans of THE DA VINCI CODE-type thrillers would love that. My only disappointment was that too much was left open. I can take one or two subplots left open-ended. I didn't mind the open ending regarding the demon hunters and who else is involved, how Edwina got in, etc. I expected Maura and Daniel to leave us hanging. But at the very least, Rizzoli's parents' subplot could have been tied up a bit more --- it was opened up, yet never explained or concluded. Even with this disappointment, it was still a fantastic, suspenseful read that kept me turning pages late
into the night.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Absolutely. Thank you for the opportunity to read THE MEPHISTO CLUB.

Linda from Casa Grande, AZ

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes, I've enjoyed several of her books and will eventually read all the
previous ones I've missed.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Jeffery Deaver, Vince Flynn, Jonathan Kellerman, Lisa Gardner, Linda Howard, Iris Johansen, James Patterson, Karin Slaughter, Mary Higgins Clark, Lisa Jackson, Lisa Scottoline, Perri O'Shaughnessy, Sara Paretsky, and on and on. Major bookworm here.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
An utterly fascinating chiller of evil that I found to be frighteningly borderline believable. The Biblical aspects and legends kept me spellbound throughout. I was absolutely riveted, with only the intrusion of life duties forcing me to grudgingly set it aside. Yet, I still managed to finish it in three days.

It's precisely what I look for in a book: [a beginning that] immediately captured my attention; believable characters that I want to return in future books again and again; a story that entertains but makes me think, too; a nice balance of description and dialogue which makes the story flow smoothly along. Oh, yes. And that believability factor, too.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Absolutely! She won me over several books ago. And I wish to thank Bookreporter.com for this opportunity to test drive THE MEPHISTO CLUB.

Mark from Allen Park, MI.

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
First and most importantly, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to read and critique this book. It was a great book and a wonderful edge-of-your-seat read! I have previously read other books by Tess Gerritsen: HARVEST, LIFE SUPPORT, THE SURGEON, VANISH and THE MEPHISTO CLUB. I do have her other suspense/thriller books in my library, but have yet to read them. The first book I read by her was THE SURGEON. After that, I told myself that I had to read her other books.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I read all sorts of suspense/thriller books. A few of the authors include: Stephen King, Sandra Brown, Joseph Finder, Stephen Frey, James Grippando, Michael Connelly, Harlan Coben, James Patterson and Mary Higgins Clark.

I belong to a book club and am always looking for new releases by these authors as well as being introduced to new authors.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
THE MEPHISTO CLUB was excellent. A nice eerie story that kept you on the edge of your seat. One of the great things about Tess Gerritsen's books are the storylines. At first, they start out in different directions, and like an engrossing puzzle, they all fit and intertwine perfectly in the end. While reading it, I always try to guess how the
characters fit, and as always, Ms. Gerritsen doesn't disappoint her readers.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
I would absolutely read future books by Tess Gerritsen. Basically, if her name is on it, I will read it. Once again, I want to thank you for the opportunity that you granted to me. I enjoy Bookreporter.com immensely (especially the "Upcoming books" section).

M. from Tulsa, OK

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Some of the other authors I enjoy reading are Jonathan Kellerman, Linda Fairstein, Richard Montanari, Stephen White, Kay Hooper, Harlan Coben and Mary Higgins Clark, but I do like the up-and-coming authors that are highlighted in the newsletter.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
I just finished reading THE MEPHISTO CLUB. [The book got] off to a slow start but soon picked up the pace. I kept wanting to find out who the killer was and how of the victims were connected. It was not until the last ten pages that all of this was revealed to me as I kept trying to connect the dots. As for the The Mephisto Club, I feel something like this does exist. In today's world, nothing would surprise me.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
I look forward to future books by Tess Gerritsen. This was my first one. I will gladly add her name to my list of favorite authors.

Neil from Montreal, QC

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes. Prior to THE MEPHISTO CLUB, I read VANISH, THE SINNER and THE APPRENTICE.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I read books by Jonathan Kellerman, Sandra Brown, Kathy Reichs, Jeffery Deaver and Joseph Finder, among others.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
Ms. Gerritsen does it again by taking a good, solid story and making it even more intriguing. The plot took me to the very end without an emotional skip. This time, she introduced me to a psychotic killer with an element of the supernatural and mythical demon lore justifying his morbid killings --- what a ride. I loved the suspense and the way her loyal characters, like Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles, are challenged by even greater odds when dealing with the rituals of these killings. The
only weakness I found in this novel was a subplot that I considered a “filler” --- the relationship problems of Jane Rizzoli’s parents. However, it did justify Jane’s ongoing attitudes. This leads to unresolved issues at the end, such as, what happened to Jane’s parents? And secondly, Dr. Isles and Father Daniel --- do they find a way to be
together?

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Absolutely. I feel that Miss Gerritsen’s novels are becoming increasingly captivating and compelling. Looking forward to more Tess Gerritsen.

Randy from Thousand Oaks, CA

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Every one of her books. If I like an author's writing, I typically will read every one of his or her books. Tess's have been some of my very favorites.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I’ve read everything from all the big ‘modern-day’ authors of suspense. Greg Iles is one of my top favorites. Vince Flynn is one of my newer favorites and I’m dying for his new one this fall. It seems like there are so many wonderful female authors: Tami Hoag! Iris Johansen! Sandra Brown! Patricia Cornwell! Kathy Reichs! All of these gifted gals --- and Tess is at the top --- have a certain sell with me. I like the medical mystery as well with Robin Cook. I love Michael Connelly and Michael Crichton. James Patterson’s early stuff was great, but now he’s hard to handle. Jonathan Kellerman, Jeffery Deaver, Ken Follett and John Sandford. I read all they have, so I explore other authors. [I am] looking for more of those mentioned here.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
I fully enjoyed this book! If you are a fan of Tess Gerritsen, you will not be disappointed. If you're new to her books, you’ll be a fan after reading this book!

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
I fully intend to read every book she ever writes. She hooked me long ago.

Ray from Novi, MI

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
First of all, let me thank you for the privilege of being one of the individuals selected to receive an advance copy of this book. I have not had the privilege to read anything by this author prior to THE MEPHISTO CLUB.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Among my favorites are Phillip Margolin and James Rollins.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
I thought it was a great read. It kept my interest throughout and I would really love to see a follow-up book featuring the characters of THE MEPHISTO CLUB.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Absolutely! I plan to check out some of the books she has already published. Again, my thanks for the advance copy and my best wishes for a highly successful publication.

Sheila from Mosheim, TN

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
No, but I am planning on keeping my eyes open for any of her new novels. Tess Gerritsen is a great writer and other people who loves thrillers should read her books. I will definitely check out the other titles she has available.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Robin Cook, Dean Koontz, Clive Cussler and Stephen Hunter.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
[It was an] on-the-edge-of-my-seat thriller. I loved this book. I didn’t want to put it down until I finished it.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes, definitely.

William from Bethlehem, NH

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
First, let me say that I was honored to receive an advance copy of one of my favorite authors' newest release. With the exception of VANISH, I have read all Tess Gerritsen's novels, and with eager anticipation I await her next "brainstorm..."

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Being an avid reader, I also enjoy the works of Lee Child, Stuart Woods, John Sandford, Joy Fielding, Patricia McDonald, Jeffery Deaver, Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman and Stephen White, to name a few.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
Although I didn't care too much for the "angel/demon synopsis," I found the story to be both entertaining and thought provoking. It was great to have Jane Rizzoli return. Personally,  I don't know how Frost puts up with her, but her justifiable intense anger always puts a smile on my face!!! I would highly recommend reading Tess's previous novels first, (especially THE SINNER), to appreciate the depth of her characters and the often recited references to them. Tess Gerritsen is a true Master of her trade. I am in awe of her medical and literary accomplishments and the fact that she is willing to share them with me!!!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to participate in your program.

Alaina from Houston, TXMI

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes. I have read several books by Tess Gerritsen.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I often read Dean Koontz, Stuart Woods, Stephen King and various others.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
I enjoyed THE MEPHISTO CLUB. It was a quick read and I was interested from the very beginning. There were several moments where I could not put the book down. Unfortunately, I was a little displeased with the ending. It ended rather suddenly and I was left wanting for more. I never fully understood what kind of cult or group [two certain characters] belonged to and I wanted more information on them. Plus, I didn’t think there was enough information on the Mephisto Club.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
I would definitely read future books by Tess Gerritsen. Her books are fast-paced and entertaining. I also enjoy her writing style. I like how she switches character point-of-views.

Susan from Dorset, VT

Have you previously read a book by Tess Gerritsen?
I had never read anything by Tess Gerritsen, although I have noticed her books in both the stores and the library.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Baldacci, Patterson, Child, Kellerman, Grisham, Joseph Finder and Thomas Harris.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB?
I liked it for this type of book. I am a realist and some parts just didn't ring true, but that is what fiction is suppose to be all about. I was not surprised by much that occurred in the book. In other words, I didn't love it but also would pass it along to others. It would not be appropriate for my book group, for example.

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen?
Yes. I like light reading that holds your interest while traveling (if books continue to be allowed on planes) and one of her paperbacks would fit the bill.

Cynda from Garland, TX

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read? Other authors I love to read are Jeffery Deaver, Daniel Silva, Brian Haig, Greg Rucka, Barry Eisler, P.J. Tracy and Vince Flynn.

What did you think of THE MEPHISTO CLUB? I really loved THE MEPHISTO CLUB. I've read all of her books and this one does not disappoint. She really builds the suspense and her exploration of the nature of evil is enthralling. The plot was well-conceived and expertly written, and I think she is at the very top of suspense writers. It is definitely a book to recommend!

Would you ever read a future book by Tess Gerritsen? I can't wait for the next installment of Tess Gerritsen's series.
