Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Daniel Judson's THE DARKEST PLACE.
Kim from Westborough, MA
Have you previously read a book by Daniel Judson?
Yes, both THE POISONED ROSE and THE BONE ORCHARD.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
My favorites are Harlan Coben and Dennis Lehane.
What did you think of THE DARKEST PLACE?
I loved it. A dark, literary suspense novel, with deep characterization that doesn't hinder the pace. And the setting --- winter on Long Island --- is almost a character itself.
Would you ever read a future book by Daniel Judson?
Absolutely.

What did you think of THE DARKEST PLACE?
I thought this book was great. The complicated backgrounds and relationships of the characters kept it interesting. The book didn't have a dull moment. I was hooked from the beginning and enjoyed it throughout. I had just finished reading a cozy mystery before this. It was good, too, but this book had meat. A cozy mystery just doesn't thrill like this book did. I am so glad I got to read this.
Would you ever read a future book by Daniel Judson?
Yes, I will read other books by Daniel Judson. I plan on getting copies of THE BONE ORCHARD and THE POISONED ROSE and reading those too. Thanks for introducing me to this author's work.

Have you previously read a book by Daniel Judson? What did you think of THE DARKEST PLACE?
Although I haven't read Judson book before, I enjoyed this one tremendously. I liked the depth of feeling in the main characters --- they were alive for me --- and I think that's what a good story makes one feel: connected. It seems like Mr. Judson is a bit of a philosopher himself, due to his references to some of Dr. Jung's works. I really like Deacon Kane. The protagonists in this tale have heart and a whole lot of soul.

I look forward to my next Judson read. Thank you!

What did you think of THE DARKEST PLACE?
The characters were confusing, and there were too many jumps from storyline to storyline. It was a quick read, but I had to keep going back to refresh my memory of the story. The corruption angle never went anywhere --- what was the purpose? Did we really need to be told it was about loss? Women characters were not well-developed. And the sex scenes...NOT! Kane, beaten severely and still willing to have sex and not be in pain? If he was beaten that badly, would he [really be able to participate]? Doubtful. Like a soap opera, it was unbelievable and sappy. [Editor's Note: this comment was edited to prevent spoilers.]
Would you ever read a future book by Daniel Judson?
Probably not.
