Steve Berry

Fast Facts:

  • Steve conducted his research for THE TEMPLAR LEGACY in Andorra, the French Pyrenees and Paris.

  • Steve created Cotton Malone, a lead character in THE TEMPLAR LEGACY, while sitting at a Copenhagen cafe in a popular Danish square. Malone's first scene in THE TEMPLAR LEGACY takes place at the same Danish square where Steve conceived the character: Højbro Plads.

  • THE TEMPLAR LEGACY is the first of four planned novels to feature Cotton Malone. Additional books with the character are scheduled to be published in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

  • Steve is no stranger to rejection --- five of his eight unpublished manuscripts were rejected 85 times before Ballantine purchased THE AMBER ROOM in 2002.

  • Steve still practices law full time, so he sets aside two hours of every weekday morning to write, from 7 to 9.

  • Steve credits James Michener and David Morrell as a few of his writing influences, as well as Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, James Rollins, Ken Follett, David Poyer, John Case, Allan Folsom, Stephen Frey, Robert Ludlum, Daniel Easterman, Frederick Forsyth, Jack DuBrul and Nelson DeMille.

  • Steve's three previous novels were national bestsellers, appearing on the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and Book Sense bestseller lists. THE THIRD SECRET even debuted at #13 on the New York Times list during its first week of sale.

  • Steve's books have been published in 29 languages to date.

  • Steve enjoys traveling for both business and pleasure and has spent time in the Caribbean, Mexico, Germany, Austria, England, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, France and Denmark.

  • Some of Steve's hobbies include scuba diving, playing golf and book collecting.
