What did you think of COLD HIT?
COLD HIT is a rapid, intense mystery. What more can a reader ask for? This is packed with a little bit of everything for everyone. This moves so quick it's hard to decide who to trust and who to confide in. As the story unfolds and you get a sense for the characters, the author throws in a new character or plot change that leads you on a great adventure of murder and conspiracy. Shane Scully, the main officer on the case, has a sour past that he has turned around. His wife Alexa is his boss, which adds a little flare to this story. We also meet Shane's partner Zach who is having a melt down. As all three of these characters are dealing with their lives, they try to make advances in a new string of murders known as the "The Finger Tip" case. Dead homeless people are popping up and dead with their fingertips cut off, not to mention some other odd similarities between the cases. As the case progresses, we the readers are thrown off guard with very clever plot twists that make this very exciting.

The characters are very human and believable. It is a detective's story with an insider's perspective. It is an action packed gritty novel that has new relevant ideas that confront ethical and moral dilemmas. This story is intelligent and plotted so skillfully that we are gripped by its intensity. The excellent character portrayal makes this so realistic that we can picture and relate with the characters throughout the novel. This book is a masterpiece of a creation written by a master weaver and a superb storyteller. A brilliant and enthralling book that had me enthralled from the onset.

What did you think of COLD HIT?
This was a "great" read. A real page-turner. I particularly liked the format of this book. The chapters were very short, not more than 3-4 pages long. I would also like to give credit to the editors and publishers for the font/point size. This helped tremendously in the concentration and movement of the plot/story. As to the story itself, I would like to thank Mr. Cannell for his foresight and imagination. I wish I could write stories like this. It is amazing how we, the reader, get drawn into the story from the beginning (a simple LA homicide of a homeless person) to the end (a national/international incident involving the Patriot Act, LAPD, FBI, CIA, NSA, KGB, Russian Mafia, etc.). This is more than the usual "good guys vs. bad guys." This was analogous to a tidal wave. It moved along swiftly until it finally reached a peak and came crashing down at the end. All the characters are well developed throughout the story. I particularly liked Mr. Cannell's writing style. He uses a lot of acronyms, synonyms and analogies in the story that helps the reader understand the characters and plot. It is written in simple "streetwise" language for all to understand. As I was reading, I also got the author's feeling on the subject he was writing about, which I don't often find in a book. I also was able to visualize his witty type of character, i.e., "That's All Folks" inscribed on a coffin. Finally, I would like to congratulate Mr. Cannell for another success. I am sure this will be a bestseller.

COLD HIT was fast paced, exciting, with unexpected turns on every page. I thoroughly enjoyed the present-day setting, and the characters, even the antagonists, were quite easy to believe and root for! I would and have recommended to others to read it and I hope to read other Shane Scully novels soon! A must read for anyone who enjoys action, thrills, and suspense! Let me just say, the ending was not what you would expect but very plausible. Thank you for writing this and allowing me to read it.

What did you think of COLD HIT?
It was an excellent book. Very easy to read and comprehend the technical terms. Cannell's character, Shane Scully, is a natural for this storyline. Mixing the present with the past is so well done and pulls everything together page by page. Cannell also brought to light questions about our Patriot Act and the internal sneakiness in our justice departments. This book makes you stop and think!!!
