QUESTIONS FROM READERS
Andrea from Jefferson Hills, PA: What inspired you to do a story based on murder memorabilia? It is quite unusual.
Jack Kerley: I saw a newspaper article about an online auction site that had offered several pieces of the darker sort of memorabilia. It had created something of a controversy. I started to look into the phenomenon, and next thing I knew a story was up and running.
Carol from Washington, DC: Where did the inspiration for Jeremy come from?
Jack Kerley: Thin air, basically. I was thinking of an institutionalized madman as Carson Ryder's brother, but didn't want to end up with a clone of Hannibal Lecter, almost a pop culture icon. So I took my character in another direction: loud, self-aggrandizing, insecure, but with a slight undercurrent of humor.
Jeff from Nashville, TN: I was just curious if Carson was going to have a different girlfriend in every book or will he eventually settle on one. I like the characters you create and was just wondering.
Jack Kerley: Each book is its own journey, but with previous characters weaving in and out. Danielle Danbury seems to have made an impression on Carson --- as well as helped him out --- but Ava Davanelle (from THE HUNDREDTH MAN) is still out there somewhere as well.
Beth from Montgomery Village, MD: Assuming future books will feature Carson and Harry, any chance of a love interest for Harry Nautilus?
Jack Kerley: Harry is divorced, never speaks much of it, the reader left with the impression Harry's still gunshy about romance. I think, however, it's in his future.
Rita from Hoopeston, IL: When is your next book coming out? I'm awaiting it with baited breath!
Jack Kerley: Summer of 2006 is the next release, as yet without a name.
Lisa from Chicago, IL: I knew nothing of you before receiving this book, so I immediately turned to the back of the book to read the biographical information. You happen to live in the next town over from where my family lives in Kentucky (Ft.Thomas/Bellevue). Of course this only endears you more to me as an author.
Jack Kerley: I'm delighted with the connection and additional endearment. When I was growing up in Newport, Kentucky, my favorite place was Highland Hills Park in Ft. Thomas, or, more correctly, the woods and creeks around it. My mom lives in Ft. Thomas, and I spend a lot of time wandering “The Avenue” in Bellevue, a community on the banks of the Ohio River.
