Have you ever read books by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
Yes, I have. I love to read and finish around 10 books a month!! I need to join a book of the month club.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Many, anything I can get my hands on. I have so many books, I could send you a detailed list, but it might take a while :)

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
I like the book. Felt real sad during a part of the book when I thought someone could be in danger. Some of the details were not as interesting for someone who is not a history buff, yet reading allows for one to explore many different facets of life and culture, that we might never experience. UNLUCKY IN LAW is a nice read.

Would you ever read future titles by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
Yes, have to keep up with some of the return people she writes about.

Have you ever read books by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
Yes, I've read all of the "Nina Reilly" books.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Sue Grafton (All the ABC books), Margaret Maron (Judge Knott books), Evanovich (the number books) as well as I've read many of the writers of the past esp. the Marsh mysteries. I recently read a Linda Fairstein book, which I enjoyed and just ordered her latest. One of my favorite series is Jance's Johanna Barnes novels. I have also read all "The Cat Who" books except the most recent.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
UNLUCKY IN LAW is probably my favorite in the "Nina" series. It is really a page-turner. I was at first disappointed that the setting wasn't Tahoe again because I think that setting adds a different dimension to the stories. I was pleasantly surprised that I found myself right back in the Monterey/Carmel area even though it has been about eight years since I've been there. I really enjoyed this story as I was a history major in college and I felt the addition of some Russian history made the story more interesting, as well as exciting. I enjoy these books because the stories include the everyday human problems that professional women have, as well as the demands of their job. Also, the discrimination that most women still have is brought into the story, and the conflict of partnering with a man when she's technically his boss is an interesting touch. The authors must have personal experience with teenage boys! I would recommend this book as a must, especially for those readers who enjoy mystery/suspense/courtroom dramas with a touch of history and personal struggle thrown into the mix.

Would you ever read future titles by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
I look forward to reading future books by the O'Shaughnessys.

Have you ever read books by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
No.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Sue Grafton, Tami Hoag, Patricia Cornwell, Steve Martini.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
I enjoyed it very much. The story was a little slow to get started. Once it did, there were so many twists and turns that I couldn't begin to guess where it was going next. Lot of surprises! The historical information about the Russian tsar added interest to the story. It sets this book apart from being just another mystery novel.

Would you ever read future titles by Perri O'Shaughnessy?

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
UNLUCKY IN LAW was a great summertime read! Her characters matured with each chapter, though I longed for an elaboration of the intimate relation between Nina and Paul. Perhaps I filled that in for myself since I, too, became entranced in her legal journey until the end. I enjoyed every morsel. Every piece of the puzzle!

Would you ever read future titles by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
I will be anxious to get my hands on her next book.

Have you ever read books by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
Only one several years ago… OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Patricia Cornwell and Michael Connelly are my favorites.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
I have really enjoyed this book. I think the challenges that Nina face are both personal and professional realities and are something the reader can relate to. Nina leaves the comfort of her life to go back to where she came from, and has to deal with personal decisions that will affect her job, and as well as her son and friends and family. I think the questions she asks herself are because deep down she knew the answers but had to force herself to face them. The people she thinks she is most dependent on she needs to take a second look at. I found the Russian history very interesting also. It was threaded throughout the book and added spice to the story, leading it in several directions. I think it took the book in a direction you wouldn't expect, and made it unlike other books out there about lawyers and crimes stories. It kept me challenged and I wasn't able to figure out the ending all the way through.

Would you ever read future titles by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
Yes, I will go back and read the whole Nina Reilly series. I didn't realize, as I'd only read one till now, that it was a series with the same character. I like Nina's character and would like to read the other books.

This is my first book by Perri O'Shaughnessy. I would love to read her earlier books.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I usually read John Grisham, Michael Connelly and James Patterson.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
I found this book to be quite different from the others. I liked the fact that I could relate to Nina as a woman. I could understand Nina's struggle with her balancing her professional and personal life. Knowing that she always had to work harder to receive the respect from the other members of the firm. It was a pleasure to read this book.

Wildice24@aol.com

Have you ever read books by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
I have never read this author before.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I read many books per week, review books, and can easily catch what is good and what is disconcerting. I do read suspense/thrillers and notice that more on the market in the past several years. I think people crave escape, if I were to guess.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
Please tell the author that the premise of the book was a very good one. Two standout sections were the body in the grave --- and then at the end, the safe in the floor and what it contained. I read it cover to cover in a single sitting. I found the number of names --- and perhaps the particular chosen names --- somehow confusing to be thrown at all at once. I know Carmel well and the author lets you know SHE does also, but to most readers, place names, highway numbers, and all that would detract rather than add. They do not need to know such exact details unless the story is a true one. I know exactly how to tighten it up, make it less confusing (characters particularly) but in essence, the basis for a good book is all there --- and certain segments stood alone.

Although I have never read her books before, I have now discovered a new author.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
I enjoyed the book --- not just the story and plot line, but also her imagery. Her character and setting descriptions were concise and easy to visualize. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book.

I will definitely add O'Shaughnessy to my list of authors.

Bettys1870@aol.com

Have you ever read books by Perri O' Shaughnessy?
This is my first Perri O'Shaughnessy book.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I have read many suspense/thriller authors, including John Grisham, Scott Turow, Phillip Margolin, Linda Fairstein, Daniel Silva, Ed McBain, Stuart Woods, Edna Buchanan, James Patterson and Lisa Scottoline.

What did you think of UNLUCKY IN LAW?
I found the premise of UNLUCKY IN LAW (find a client innocent of the murder of the supposed heir to Tsar Alexis Nicholaevich Romanov, the last Tzar of Russia) interesting; however, the story arrived at a conclusion in convoluted manner and with inconsistencies. Examples: Paul says (p.124) that Nina had not told him that Susan Misumi would be called as a witness. But (p. 110) Nina told him that Susan is the next person up. No explanation of why Bob returned from Sweden early or even why he went. I found the references to present day happenings a good touch: Scott Peterson trial; California State University at Monterey Bay used to be Fort Ord; references to actor Nicholas Cage. These give me the feeling of an ongoing event. Perhaps if I had read previous Perri O'Shaughnessy books I would have understood the relationship between Nina, Paul and Bob better. Just a paragraph about their previous relationship early in the book should have been included.

Would you ever read future titles by Perri O'Shaughnessy?
I don't know if I would read any more books by these authors. (Their styles are different: one uses big words that require a dictionary look-up; the other is more plain speaking. It is easy to see where one begins and the other inserts information.)
