Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Tami Hoag's KILL THE MESSENGER.

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
No, this was the first time I had read one of her books.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I have started reading thrillers only recently, in particular books by Grisham and Koontz.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
I thought it was a great read. Each time I put the book down, I couldn't wait to get back to it. Having read thrillers by only men before this, it was interesting to read a thriller with a bit of a feminine voice to it; it didn't feel so sharp around the edges. On the other hand, I also felt like the book would feel a little out of date in a few years with its sporadic references to trendy clothing and events. As a female decidedly not into fashion, it was a touch distracting for me to find this in a thriller. However, as to the story itself, I enjoyed guessing, "who did it" all the way to the end. I really enjoyed this book overall and would recommend it to others.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
Yes, I definitely would.

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
No.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Jonathan Kellerman, Michael Connelly, Walter Mosley, Dennis Lehane, Rick Riordan, James Burke, Carl Hiaasen, Elmore Leonard.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
It started out slowly, but got better so I wanted to finish it. I judge books by whether it's a page-turner that I read 'til the end, or if I skip to the end because I'm bored. I read this book all the way through. I liked the character development and use of humor.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
Perhaps.

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
Yes.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Iris Johansen, and Tess Gerritsen just to name a few.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
It took me about 50 pages to get into the book but once I did, I enjoyed it. It was an interesting glimpse into the world of bike messengers. I think the reason it took me some time to get into it is because I'm used to Ms. Hoag's main characters being female and it took me a few chapters to put that behind me. The author has a knack for drawing readers into the story and tuning out the rest of the world.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
Definitely, yes!

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
I have read a few of Tami Hoag's other books in the past, but none lately.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I have read Dean Koontz books, but I do find I like to read from the woman's point of view --- rather than a man's.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
The book KILL THE MESSENGER has all the great attributes for a great story. It has several working plots going on at the same time, you could really get a good feel for the characters and what they were about and the great twist at the end! I really did not see the ending turn out as it did!
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
I do believe I would be interested in reading her future books and see what story lines she can come up with --- I do not think anyone else has written about bike messengers. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be an advanced reader and I hope I can do so again!

What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
I enjoyed Kill the Messenger. While it seems typical of books set in LA, I did enjoy the references to the Hollywood heyday and the notes on architecture. Also, the characters of Jace, Tyler, and Kev were very appealing.

What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
I loved it; it was filled with suspense all through the book. The characters were such that you cared what happened to them. The subject of the messengers was new and interesting. Ms. Hoag is very skilled in developing her characters, especially detective Parker who was very compassionate. A great ride. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read her book.

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
No.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Grafton, Cornwell, Patterson, Follett.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
It starts out as a seemingly predictable mystery. Of course the messenger had something in that packet that needed to be destroyed but shortly the twists and turns had my head spinning, trying to figure out why people were acting the way they were and saying the things they were. Not knowing the characters past histories but seeing how it effected their actions kept me glued to the book. I didn't think it could all come together but by the end of the book.... there it was, a perfectly logical story of how love and money can drive people to do crazy things.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
Yes, I have some of her other books but it had been a while since I had read one.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I like James Patterson, Sue Grafton, Dean Koontz, Lisa Scottoline and John Sandford, just to name a few.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
I think it was her best book yet. At least I enjoyed it the most of the other books I have read written by her. The story kept me wanting to finish and had some great twists and turns. She made me feel the anxiety of Jace and Tyler and root for them to come out on top of all this and keep their "family" intact. Of course I wanted to know who the killer was but rooting for those kids was just as important a part of the story.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
Yes, definitely!

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
Yes.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
James Patterson, Jeffery, Dean Koontz, Dan Brown, Iris Johansen, Patricia Cornwell and more.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
As usual, Tami Hoag has delivered another suspenseful story. Full of twists and turns, this book will keep you guessing up until the end! Readers will enjoy immensely because the quirky characters make this book very special. Jace is more mature than people twice his age are and very resourceful; his brother is a genius; and Detective Parker does not always follow directions but manages to get the job done.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
Yes, I have read (and thoroughly enjoyed) at least five other books Tami has written.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
In my youth I read Doyle, Hitchcock, Queen and Bradbury; all of Ludlum --- then on to Koontz, King, Cornwell, Patterson --- but quite different genres?
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
KILL THE MESSENGER totally captured my interest early in the first chapter as Tami's books nearly always do. She develops each character so fully and easily that I never have to backtrack to make sure I remember "Who's who." I really liked getting to know Jace, the main character, as I've always wondered who a messenger might be. Having lived in only two different cities --- the Twin Cities in MN and Indianapolis --- neither of which have a great number of messengers --- the few I saw intrigued me. And, best of all, I like the fact Tami completes the story, tying up all the loose ends.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
I do look forward to reading Tami's future books.

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
Yes, all of them!
What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Nora Roberts, Iris Johansen
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
The book had me hooked from the first chapter. I thought it moved very well, and had the expected twists and turns of any of her books. I was a little disappointed with the ending, it seemed just a little flat. That doesn't mean it wasn't a good read, but I don't think she will ever beat NIGHT SINS for sheer suspense.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
Yes.

Have you read books by Tami Hoag before?
Yes, I have read several books by Tami Hoag --- my favorites were ASHES TO ASHES and DUST TO DUST.
What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read numerous suspense authors: Mary Higgins Clark, Jerri Beachstock, David Baldacci, Harlan Coben, Linda Fairstein, James Grippando, Richard North Patterson, James Patterson, Kathy Reichs and Ridley Pearson.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
I thought KILL THE MESSENGER was a 4 star (out of 5) book. The human-interest story of the orphaned boy intertwined well with the conflict in the police station. The plot was very well done and the book would make a great movie! The only reason for a four stars instead of a five is that the clues given weren't enough to allow me to guess the perpetrator --- I guess that's an ego thing, and others may want to try out their detective skills in this clever "whodunit."
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
I will definitely read other books in the same genre by Tami Hoag!

Catherine Coulter, Sandra Brown, Karen Robards, Jayne Ann Krentz, Elizabeth Lowell, Mary Higgins Clark, Iris Johansen, Heather Graham, just to name a few. I have many favorite authors and I am always anxiously waiting for their next book.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
I really liked the book. It was one of those books that kept your attention all the way through and kept you guessing as to who was behind it until almost the end. I think I read the whole book in a couple of evenings. I got so involved in reading the book that I felt as though I was there, and felt that I got to know the characters and almost knew that they were feeling. Especially Jace Damon and his brother Tyler. Thank you again for the advance reading copy.
Would you read future books by Tami Hoag?
Most definitely. As soon as they come out.

Have you ever read Tami Hoag before?
I have been a Tami Hoag fan from the time I picked up and read NIGHT SINS and GUILTY AS SIN and plan to read all of her past and future novels.
What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I enjoy reading books by James Patterson, John Sandford, Patricia Cornwell and Michael Connelly. But I do like that Tami Hoag's writing is suspenseful and grabs you right from the start. She develops her characters so well that it makes you feel you'd like to meet them personally.
What did you think of KILL THE MESSENGER?
From the first page of Tami Hoag's book, KILL THE MESSENGER, you are taken on a fast-paced roller coaster ride through the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles until the exciting conclusion. Jace Damon is a bike messenger who is inadvertently drawn into a murder and becomes a suspect when the package he is to deliver is sought after by many people including a brutal killer who will stop at nothing to obtain it. The story unfolds quickly amongst an array of colorful and quirky characters, including the detective who is covering the case. Detective Kevin Parker is a tough and gritty policeman with an attitude but who also has compassion and heart for people, and I was moved by the way he handled the case and the people involved. Tami Hoag keeps the pace moving as the chase is on to find Jace and to catch the killer before a tragedy occurs. She presents vivid descriptions of local color in the Los Angeles area with familiarity and touches of humor to offset the tension of the story. This is definitely a gripping page-turner and I hope we will see more of Detective Parker in a future novel. Even with his unconventional ways, he epitomizes what true justice should be.
