Stephen Frey
COMMENTARY
I ignore those blurbs you find on the backs of books telling you how great the author's work is. I typically see these lines as sensationalism much like tabloid journalism headlines and summarily dismiss them even when they are clever.
However after reading SILENT PARTNER and THE DAY TRADER by Stephen Frey, I realized that the blurb lines about him were dead on. My two favorites:
"Grisham meets Ludlum on Wall Street: - USA Today
"He does for trading floors what John Grisham has done for the bench." Forbes
Here's the real testimony about how good Frey is --- in one week I read five of his books and the other three are on the top of my reading pile. Each book is a stand-alone with its own storyline and cast of characters. Each addresses a different aspect of the financial world, and weaves concrete information about that business into a storyline that keeps you flipping the pages. Whether you understand the financial world when you crack the cover is irrelevant. Frey fills in what you need to know to follow the story and makes it so interesting that by the end you are surprised at what you have learned.
Just as Grisham walks readers through wills, torts, summons and testimony, Frey addresses day trading, arbitrage, equity lending and vulture funds as some of his topics. There's also murder, intrigue and great descriptive writing.
Next week we'll add a feedback form so you can add comments about Frey's books as you read them. Till then, feel free to drop me a note at Carol@bookreporter.com
