About the Book

Three Kings and a Star

Urban Ministries, Inc. Shines with THREE KINGS AND A STAR

UMI's new children's holiday book follows the three wise men in a vibrant retelling of the ageless Christmas story

Dallas, Fort Worth, TX --- THREE KINGS AND A STAR (October, 2005) is the latest offering from Urban Ministries, Inc.—one of the first companies ever to contextualize the stories from the Bible for African Americans through art, illustration and prose.  This vivid depiction of the wise men's journey to find the baby Jesus will captivate children of all races this holiday season.

With exquisite, full 6-color illustrations, THREE KINGS AND A STAR magically transports children to a long-ago time and a far away land.  The story's simplicity and wonder is captured on each page, from the instant Mary discovers she will have a son to the moment the three wise men lay their gifts before the newborn King.

The book's author and illustrator, Fred Crump, Jr., understands the great need for children's books designed specifically for the African American demographic.  A public school art teacher for more than 30 years, Fred has been the illustrator for more than 40 books, including LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, SLEEPING BEAUTY, CINDERELLA, and FAVORITE BIBLE STORIES, all contextualized for African American children.

UMI (Urban Ministries, Inc.), the largest independently-owned African American religious media communications firm in the United States, has been creating magazines, books, videos, DVDs, music and crafts for the urban and African American communities for 35 years.  Its efforts to produce superior quality products geared toward encouraging and building up the African American community have earned enviable acclaim, including recognition by the Evangelical Press Association.  Its products have won Chicago Emmy and Angel awards as well.

There will be a coloring contest sponsored by UMI throughout the book's promotion.  THREE KINGS AND A STAR will be followed in 2006 by UMI's THE CARPENTER FROM GALILEE.
