The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives

Rich, bored and ambitious. What a combination! That's exactly what
the wives of Hunting Hills, Ohio are, and it's deadly. Well, maybe
not deadly but it sure can cause a lot of trouble when women have
too much money and not enough to do.

Take, for instance, Marti Denton. Never mind the fact that she
already has a husband of her own; just when she has decided that
John Harding is the man for her, he has the audacity to run off to
Prague and get married. It's bad enough that he marries just when
she's discovered her true feelings for him; he also had to go and
marry a big, gawky redhead who is definitely not the Hunting Hills
type!

Marti can't for the life of her figure out what John sees in the
Amazonian Claire Stark. After all, while Marti has made a career
out of fitness, beauty and shopping, Claire doesn't seem to devote
any care to her appearance at all. She also has a career as a
journalist. Gasp. What on earth is John thinking?

The presence of John's wife, however, doesn't deter Marti from
launching her campaign to win his heart. Why let a little thing
like a marriage stand in the way of true love when everyone knows
that marriages are meant to last only as long as the money
does?

Claire is blissfully unaware of Marti's penchant for her husband
and accepts Marti's offer of friendship. She also has to deal with
an elitist mother-in-law, John's ex-wife Boots, and his
stepdaughter Ingrid, as well as a strange assortment of Hunting
Hills wives who are all carbon copies of one another. Claire
struggles to find her niche in this strange plastic world as she
settles into married life with John.

When scandals such as a lesbian affair, embezzlement and affairs
galore rock the quiet streets of Hunting Hills, mayhem prevails and
everyone wonders if the secret lives of fortunate wives are going
to be plastered all over the front page for all and sundry to
see.

Sarah Strohmeyer's THE SECRET LIVES OF FORTUNATE WIVES is a
pleasant and entertaining read, which gives us a glimpse into how
the other half lives and reminds us that appearances are deceiving
and that things are not always what they seem.
