Former academic Arthur Opp hasn't left his Brooklyn home in a decade. In Yonkers, 17-year-old Kel navigates life as a poor kid in a rich school. Kel’s mother, Charlene, is a former student of Arthur’s, and calls him with a plea for help after two decades of silence.

Leela has been in self-imposed exile from India and her family for decades. 22 years earlier, her sister was seduced by the egotistical Vyasa, and the fallout from their relationship drove Leela away.  Vyasa is preparing for his son's marriage, but when Leela arrives for the wedding, she disrupts the careful choreography of the weekend, with its myriad attendees and their conflicting desires.

Two people, Lauren and Ben, are dealing with very different problems in their lives; Lauren came back home after a chain of violent events in the medicinal field left her jobless, Ben bottomed out after a series of bad decisions. Their paths intertwine, and it isn't too long before they are questioning if each is what the other needs, or the last thing in the world either one can handle, especially in lue of a murder.
