With
The Drangonlance Chronicles, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have
opened the doorway into a world that in recent years has become a
huge, worldwide-known saga. Dragonlance books have been published
in over 20 languages and have been made into audiobooks as well.
DRAGONS
OF AUTUMN TWILIGHT, the first book in the Dragonlance Chronicles
trilogy, opens a window to the world of Krynn. This window gives
the reader a glimpse of the world at its most vulnerable state in
all its long history. The Queen of Darkness, known as Takhisis,
one of the three creators of the world, has begun her plans to capture
the world under her flag of black, while Paladine, the God of Light,
attempts to hold her back. The Third God, Gilean, remains neutral
in all conflicts, using his powers to keep the pendulum that swings
between darkness and light in check.
Little
does Takhisis know that an unsuspecting group of heroes has been
chosen by divine intervention. After five years in search of the
true gods, which had been lost years before in the Cataclysm, these
companions --- a Knight, a retired Dwarven metalsmith, a half-elf,
two barbarians, a gold-skinned mage along with his twin warrior,
and a kender --- begin a journey into lands held by elves, evil
dragons, and armies of clerics and mages with immense and supernatural
powers. Their journey will take them into the midst of the conflict
consuming the world --- the eternal struggle of light against darkness.
This
unknown road will take the friends into the depths of the darkness
of Takhisis, only to find the one true hope the world has to fight
against the darkness spreading out of the abyss. Guarded by a Black
Dragon are the platinum disks of Mishakal, which contain the knowledge
of the ancient Gods of Light. These disks must be recovered for
the races of Krynn to have a chance to survive. Only after the holy
meaning of these disks is understood does this unlikely group of
heroes learn of their role in the ever-changing world.
DRAGONS
OF AUTUMN TWILIGHT is a beautifully written book that gives the
reader the sense of being there --- being a part of the group, facing
the danger, feeling the fears and hopes of the characters. The plot
takes you to the farthest reaches of your imagination only to turn
around and take you beyond what you expect. Come join the Elves
of Silvanesti, Qualinesti, and Kagonesti, the mountain dwarves of
Thorbardin, the hill dwarves, wizards of power, and of course, kender
in this struggle for freedom from the growing evil of the world.
