Talk Before Sleep

Review

Talk Before Sleep

Elizabeth Berg's emotionally charged novel, TALK BEFORE SLEEP, was
the American Library Association's Best Book of the Year for 1994.
After hitting the New York Times bestseller list, it became
a staple of book clubs who found Berg's writing to be honest and
uplifting in this coming-to-grips-with-death story of two best
friends, Ann Stanley and Ruth Thomas.

Ann and Ruth always shared everything, and were sure they always
would, but their lives are suddenly altered forever when Ruth is
diagnosed with breast cancer. With a support group of friends, Ann
becomes Ruth's constant bedside companion and their relationship
moves to even deeper levels of caring and giving as the disease
follows its course. Between laughter and tears, the courage of
these women speaks volumes about the power of friendship in times
of crisis.

Berg's own experience in losing a close friend to breast cancer
afforded her a personal insight that further enhanced her tender
portrayal of the intimate moments shared by Ruth and Ann while
battling pain and impending grief. TALK BEFORE SLEEP's heartfelt
sincerity makes a lasting impression on all who have read it, and
it remains one of her most popular novels to date.
