A Girl's Best Friend

Review

A Girl's Best Friend

Isabel Palmer seems to have it all: a wonderful boyfriend and
several best friends, one of whom happens to be her dog Henry.
Wherever she goes, Henry is there. To bed or to work, Izzy and
Henry are never apart. She wishes she could say the same for Leo,
her boyfriend. With an ex-wife, kids and a huge family complete
with siblings and cousins and aunts and uncles, Leo is often absent
from Isabel's life, spending more time with his ex-wife. But being
the understanding girlfriend she is, Isabel does not complain. As
she has plenty of good friends to spend her time with, her life
does not seem to be lacking. At least that's what she thinks.

The book opens with Izzy masquerading in her house as a harlot,
practicing for a big murder/costume party that is being held by one
of her best friends, Felicity. Leo is hanging out with Izzy, making
her feel wonderful and sexy. He has promised to come to the party
in costume, disguised as a rake named Max. But right before the day
of the party, at the last possible minute, he tells her that he
can't make it due to family obligations.

Although Isabel tries to understand, this is the last straw. She
cannot count the times that Leo has cancelled a date with her
because of some family emergency or shindig he needs to attend. He
has yet to meet her closest friends, and this was to be the big
weekend when she was finally going to introduce him to everyone. On
top of that, Felicity had set up each guest with his/her own
character for the party, and now she has to find someone to replace
the character of "Max."

Isabel goes to Felicity's bash alone. And although Leo isn't there
with her, she does manage to have a good time and even meets
someone new. Nick is the replacement "Max." He also happens to be a
good friend of her best friend Rob. Although Rob can do no wrong,
Nick rubs her the wrong way. There is, however, something about him
that catches her eye. She feels she knows him from a previous life,
and for the longest time she tries to remember where she has met
him before. It takes a while, but she finally remembers how their
lives intersected at one point in time --- and it is not a
flattering memory. In fact, she hopes he doesn't remember their
shared past at all.

In the meantime, problems continue with boyfriend Leo. When she
finds out that he hasn't been faithful to her, she is no longer the
understanding girlfriend and there is no turning back. She has
finally woken up to the fact that Leo may not be the man for her
after all. Maybe the only perfect one for her is dear Henry.

Readers will laugh and possibly cry at some of the scenes in A
GIRL'S BEST FRIEND. It also has some interesting plot twists that
kept me glued to the pages till the end. This stands out as a Chick
Lit title that readers who enjoy that genre will not want to
miss.
