Carla Neggers

New York Times bestselling author Carla Neggers has been spinning stories ever since she climbed a tree with pad and pen at age eleven. Now with almost 70 novels published, she has millions of copies of her books in print in more than 30 countries, and more than two dozen of her books have placed on the New York Times, USA TODAY and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. At the core of every novel Carla writes is what Publishers Weekly has called her “flair for creating likeable, believable characters and her keen recognition of the obstacles that can muddle relationships.”

Growing up in rural western Massachusetts with three brothers and three sisters, Carla developed an eye for detail and a love of a good story. Her imagination, curiosity and sense of adventure are key to creating the complex relationships, fast-paced plots and deep sense of place in her books.

“My first job was cleaning rooms at a local motel,” says the author. “As I’d pull back a shower curtain, I’d be thinking, ‘What if I found a dead body in the tub?’ As kids, we fanned out into the fields to pick wild blueberries. I’d be thinking, ‘What if I found a dead body under a pine tree?’ Fast-forward to a boat tour of a Dutch canal a few years ago. I was thinking, ‘What if a dead body floated by?’ Are we seeing a pattern here?”

She sold her first book not long after graduating magna cum laude from Boston University with a degree in journalism. An accomplished musician, she studied with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and freelanced as an arts-and-entertainment reporter --- always with a novel in the works.

Carla attributes her enduring success to the dedication of her readers. An active member of the writing community, she is a founding member of the New England Chapter of Romance Writers of America and has served on the boards of International Thriller Writers and Novelists, Inc. She has given numerous media interviews, from a popular talk-radio show in small-town Louisiana to television appearances in such cities as Boston, Denver, Phoenix, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Louisville, Columbus, Memphis and Vancouver, British Columbia.

When she isn’t writing, Carla loves to travel, hike, garden and spend time with her large family. Get-togethers at her family’s tree farm on the western edge of the Quabbin Reservoir are a favorite. She and her husband, Joe, a native of middle Tennessee, have two grown children. They are frequent travelers to Ireland and divide their time between Boston and their hilltop home in Vermont, not far from Quechee Gorge.
