I've Got Your Number

by Sophie Kinsella

Poppy Wyatt has the world by the tail. She is engaged to the amazing Dr. Magnus Tavish, she has a job as a physiotherapist that she loves, and she's attending the Marie Curie Champagne Tea at a fancy London hotel with her closest friends. Life is good, and the future looks bright.

Unfortunately for Poppy, the wheel of fortune is always turning, and sometimes it lands in a less-than-favorable position. While her friends are trying on her emerald engagement ring, which just happens to be a Tavish family heirloom, an impromptu fire alarm causes chaos and confusion. After the excitement dies down and the girls file back into the hotel, Poppy's engagement ring has disappeared.

"While I've read all of Sophie Kinsella's books and enjoyed each and every one, I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER captured my heart and attention in a special way."

Just when it seems that things can't get any worse, a drive-by thief on a bicycle snatches Poppy's cell phone out of her hands and keeps on riding. This is the final straw! Poppy's entire life is in that phone. Now what is she going to do? But everything isn't quite against Poppy. Just when she's at the lowest point of despair, she spies a cell phone carelessly tossed aside on top of the trash in a garbage bin. Never one to miss an opportunity, she scoops up the phone, gives it a test drive, and finds that it has service. Voila! She's back in business. Finders keepers, losers weepers.

Little does Poppy know that finding the phone may be more of a curse than a blessing. While she's able to hand out the number to family and friends and the hotel staff who will hopefully find her engagement, she is inundated by a constant barrage of phone calls and emails that flood the telephone endlessly. Before she knows it, the owner of the found phone, businessman Sam Roxton, has tracked her down and demands to know what she's doing with his assistant Violet's phone. Not one to give up easily, Poppy promises to forward all messages and emails to Sam if only he'll let her keep the telephone until her ring turns up. Against his better judgment, he agrees.

As if it's not bad enough that the ring has gone missing, Magnus's scholarly parents are due back in England at any moment, and they're going to expect to see the bauble on Poppy's finger. They don't seem particularly fond of her anyway, and it's hard to imagine that this latest snafu would endear her to them further.

As the pressure mounts and Poppy does her best to keep up with one catastrophic event after another, she finds herself growing closer and closer to Sam, the man on the other end of the phone. Will she ever be able to sort out this mess without losing her fiance, her future marriage and her mind? Only time will tell.

While I've read all of Sophie Kinsella's books and enjoyed each and every one, I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER captured my heart and attention in a special way. There was something about the funny, frantic Poppy and the cool, collected Sam that combined to create a special spark of chemistry. Kinsella keeps the action moving at such a pace that I found myself reading the book in one several-hours-long sitting simply because I couldn't bear to put it down. Like me, you'll wonder right up to the last minute what the future holds for Poppy and if she'll end up with the happily ever after that she deserves.
