Kenny Luck --- president and founder of Every Man Ministries and author of the first three books in the God’s Man Series (RISK, DREAM and FIGHT) --- successfully offers a dynamo of a resource on the ministry and working of the Holy Spirit. In this newest offering, SOAR, he has created a complete and comprehensive roadmap for men to follow to, as he puts it, “Defying gravity…and discovering the physics of spiritual freedom…” Luck has a formula, and it is utterly practical in guiding men --- and often challenging them --- to put proactive, directive-oriented steps to their intentions. The game plan is simple.
Luck preempts this motto by sharing a personal story where he needed to stop fighting the pilot who was teaching him how to fly a plane. The message, painful though it was to his pride, transferred into a spiritual takeaway: God is plain as day telling men to “Stop fighting ME” as well. When men heed this message, only then can the Holy Spirit begin the powerful work He longs to accomplish in every Christ follower’s heart and life. Luck tells how God is moving amongst men in deep ways, urging them on by asking them to stop fighting His purposes, stop fighting the growth He wants to bring about, stop fighting the providence in a man’s life, stop fighting His authority to mess with men’s expectations, stop fighting His voice that asks men to go against their feelings for a bigger purpose, and stop fighting the new man He is making in the midst of uncomfortable circumstances.
Throughout this three-part text, Luck will direct men by giving directives on making transitions, transformations and transactions. In male-speak, he very powerfully tells the truth about being a man who is bombarded with self-oriented societal messages, conflicting inner desires, and spiritual laziness in today’s world. Luck then tells men what to do about it. He offers vision, hope and help, and exhorts men by detailing battle plans for strategically changing their inner lives that translate into changing the lives around them for the good.
Luck expounds upon how the Holy Spirit works in a man’s life to make a way where the path has been previously blocked by learning how to identify the Holy Spirit’s nudging and welcoming these divine interruptions; by learning how essential a heart of gratitude is to living contentedly; by learning that the Holy Spirit still works miracles in people’s lives, and men can be key change agents in relieving someone’s pain, reducing someone’s load, raising someone’s spirit and reaching someone’s soul. The book also includes a workbook for personal and group use that readers will find pertinent and an excellent ending to a timely telling treatise on working in sync with God and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
