I'm a lifer! I've published 10 novels and 3 short story collections. My novel CREATION, about John James Audubon in Labrador, was a New York Times Notable Book of 2003. My newest is THE PRINTMAKER'S DAUGHTER, published in Canada in 2010 as THE GHOST BRUSH. I live in Toronto with my partner Nick who publishes cookbooks. We have a dog Jasper, and I have 2 grown-up children.
I've read and lectured in Finland, at the International Festival of Authors in Toronto, at Cambridge University, Princeton University and the Canadian Embassies in Tokyo, New Delhi and London. I was President of PEN Canada and I've helped found the cross Canada, school-based "Writers in Electronic Residence", and 'Canadian Journalism for Foreign Trained Writers', at Sheridan College in Toronto. My work appears throughout the English speaking world and in translation.
