Have you read Jonathan Tropper before?
No, this is a first for me.
What other writers do you read?
I read MANY because I do a column for an Internet recipe newsletter as well as have my own website (http://www.thelastmorsel.com). Most of my reading is food-related (my preferred genre is "literary cuisine") rather than cookbooks, though. Some of my favorite writers are M.F.K. Fisher, Michael Lee West, Calvin Trillin, James Beard, Peter Mayle, Ruth Reichl, Anthony Bourdain, Laurie Colwin, Joanne Harris, John Thorne, and my favorite --- Isabel Allende. In the non-food area, my favorite authors are the classics: Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, John Steinbeck, Mark Twain. I also enjoy the works of Nick Bantock, Diane Ackerman, Jack Finney.
What did you think of THE BOOK OF JOE?
I haven't finished it yet, but I love what I've read so far. Somehow I expected it to be humorous, and I was surprised by the events that comprise the story. The narrator reminds me a little of Holden Caulfield, and I like his irreverent tone. I'm going to try to finish the book this week.
Would you ever read future titles by Jonathan Tropper?
I probably would, since I like him so much already.

What did you think of THE BOOK OF JOE?
I loved it! It was very entertaining, so much so that I couldn't put it down. I like his writing style --- going back and forth between past and present made a very effective story telling tool. His character description was great, making the characters so familiar. Totally a great book!

Yes, I read PLAN B.
What other writers do you read?
Just read Gail Sheehy and Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez.
What did you think of THE BOOK OF JOE?
Oodles of fun! I had to force myself to put the book down after midnight so I would be able to wake up and get my kids on the bus the next morning. Good thing my schedule was clear the next day so I could finish it. Got completely lost in the narrative and can't wait to see the movie.
Would you ever read future titles by Jonathan Tropper?
Most certainly!

Have you read Jonathan Tropper before?
No.
What other writers do you read?
Classics like Hemingway, Austen, Willa Cather; biographers A. Scott Berg, McCullough, Goodwin; also a lot of new literary fiction writers, and time travel writers (Niffenegger and Jack Finney)!
What did you think of THE BOOK OF JOE?
I would never have purchased it, because as I picked it up and leafed through it has way too much profanity for my taste. That would be my one complaint still, and the reason I would hesitate to recommend it to friends. However, I was hooked once I started reading. The author is wonderful at describing how a person feels, and a great allegorist. I could hardly put it down, I had to sneak reading on my lunch hour which I don't do that often!
Would you ever read future titles by Jonathan Tropper?
Yes, especially if he cleaned up the language some.

I have read Jonathan Tropper before. PLAN B was enough to make me keep an eye on him as a budding author but THE BOOK OF JOE solidified him in my mind as a very real talent.
What other writers do you read?
I am a voracious reader. I read everything from Augusten Burroughs to Wally Lamb, Dan Brown, Anne Rice, Jonathan Franzen, Audrey Niffenegger (and that's just within the last few weeks.)
What did you think of THE BOOK OF JOE?
I think the book was well crafted and brilliantly told. Jonathan Tropper has a great ear for dialogue and an easy way of telling a story. I have already recommended the book to all of my friends and family. Jonathan Tropper is quite a talented writer.
