QUESTIONS FROM READERS
Jane Porter answers readers' questions about why she chose to incorporate certain details --- such as religion and the public school system --- into her latest book, MRS. PERFECT.
Kay from Plattsburg, MO: You brought up religion in bits and pieces of the story. I am a Christian, and I was wondering why you added it to the story. Was it intentional?
Jane Porter: My mentioning Taylor's background as a Christian was definitely intentional as her faith is an important part of who she was, and is today. It isn't until Taylor is confronted by crisis that she realizes how much she has changed from the young woman she once was, a young woman who needed God. Now as a sophisticated mother of three living in an affluent neighborhood, Taylor sees that she has become rather God-less, and her growth as a person is stunted without the spiritual life.
Tracy from Nevada City, CA: Why did you choose public school for such a prosperous family?
Jane Porter: Bellevue, Washington, where the book is set, has some of the best public schools in the country. While private schools are always an option for wealthy families, the public schools here rival the best private schools in every way from test scores to sports programs. As a former teacher, I'm also a believer in the public school system.
