Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Therese Fowler's SOUVENIR.
Beth from Bakersfield, CA
What other authors do you usually read?
To be honest, I read too many to count. But my favorites are Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb, Amanda Quick, Jayne Ann Krentz, Elizabeth Lowell, Bertrice Small and Laurell K. Hamilton, just to name a few.
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
Loved it. This book brought forth a huge range of emotions --- love, loss, regret, fulfillment, and most of all, acceptance. It has touched me like no other has in the past, and for a woman who has read thousands of books, this is a big deal. I was so wrapped up in these characters' lives. I didn't put the book down until I finished it. Unfortunately, this finish was absolute tears! SOUVENIR has taught me to appreciate every moment, and to never regret --- just to fix and to take charge of your life in every way you can.
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
Yes; even though this one was heartbreaking as well as fulfilling, I would definitely read her next one, as well as any previous works by this author.
Debra from Medina, OH
What other authors do you usually read?
I read Philippa Gregory, Rebecca Wells, Amy Tan, Dennis Lehane, Harlan Coben, Janet Evanovich, Jodi Picoult, and many, many others.
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
I liked SOUVENIR very much. It’s filled with interesting characters and interesting situations. This is for everyone whose first love did not end the way she hoped. Meg has always done what is expected of her rather than follow her heart. I found myself staying awake at night worrying about Savannah, an intelligent but naive teen afraid and embarrassed to stand up to her boyfriend. Can mistakes be rectified?
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
Yes, and I would recommend this to others.
Debra from Pittsburgh, PA
What other authors do you usually read?
I read Jeffery Deaver, Jodi Picoult, Mary Alice Monroe, Sandra Brown, James Patterson, John Grisham, Iris Johansen, Tess Gerritsen, Nicholas Sparks, Richard Paul Evans and many more.
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
This is the best book I’ve read in a long time. I could not put it down for three days. I had to know what happened next, and even when I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about and talking to other people about it. It reached my heart and my mind. Savannah’s “romance” was nerve wracking, Meg and Carson’s romance was delightful, and Meg’s disease was difficult to read about. Therese Fowler did a wonderful job, though, of allowing Meg to have the dignity she wanted.
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
If there were another book out, I’d buy it tonight.

What did you think of SOUVENIR?
It was a wonderful story, although took me a while to get through the last third. I kept having to put book down because I was crying so hard that couldn't see to read…I do get into my stories.

What did you think of SOUVENIR?
I really enjoyed this book. I found it easy to get into the book and it held my attention the whole time I was reading it. I liked the character development --- it was easy to like the characters and I found myself feeling what they were feeling. I liked the way the author switched back and forth between characters with each chapter.

What other authors do you usually read?
I am in two book clubs at the present. I do read the selections we choose, which are usually bestseller types. However, I love reading Luanne Rice, Elizabeth Berg, Jodi Picoult, and Debbie Macomber --- these authors are my all-time favorites. I also like reading Susan Wittig Albert. She writes mystery stories taking place in Texas.
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
I loved it and couldn't put it down. It was a page turner. This was some upbeat, true-to-life reading. The characters seemed like they were alive, and even though their situations were sad, the author developed them in a way that was believable. The story is something that could actually happen in real life, and is an interesting one to follow and get wrapped up in. Fowler's treatment of the characters and their passions and choices was outstanding.
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
Yes, I would. I like her style. It’s very believable and smooth.
Monica from Arlington, TX
What other authors do you usually read?
My top authors are Dean Koontz, Harlan Coben, Stuart Woods, Donald E. Westlake, Janet Evanovich and MaryJanice Davidson.
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
I absolutely loved SOUVENIR. The characters became real to me within the first few chapters. The story line was never predictable and I anxiously turned the pages to keep the story alive. It was easy to feel Carson's despair and longing, Meg's heart-wrenching decision making, and Savannah's idea of what love means to a teenager. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
Yes! I read at the back of the book that Ms. Fowler is working on her next novel about a woman who falls in love with her old flame's son. That book will be on my wish list.
I look forward to reading many more by Therese Fowler in the years to come.
Sally from San Antonio, TX
What other authors do you usually read?
I read numerous contemporary authors, but my favorites are Kathy Reichs and Terry Brooks (fantasy).
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
The beginning was somewhat abrupt but elapsed into a well-written, emotional novel with death and redemption at the end.
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
Yes.
Bobbe from Los Angeles, CA
What other authors do you usually read?
I read an eclectic bunch of authors, including Dave Eggers, Stephen King, Richard Russo, J. D. Robb, John Grisham, Alice Sebold, Ann Patchett, Jonathan Kellerman, Ian McEwan, Joyce Carol Oates, Phillip Roth, Sue Miller, Jodi Picoult and Michael Connelly, among others! And not to mention some of the authors of times past!
What did you think of SOUVENIR?
Overall, this book was fast reading as you become involved in the tale of what happens when you give up your first love for life's realities. The main character, Meg, was a little too good to be true. I like more shading in my main characters.
I did want to know how the arc of the story would end, and it kept me reading. Jodi Picoult does this kind of narrative with less of a saccharine overtone.
Would you ever read a future book by Therese Fowler?
Yes, I would. Some of her images were lovely and haunting. The character of Savannah was the most real to me and did typify a teenager's angst. I would like to see how this author develops and matures.
