What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST is a terrific book. It was funny, entertaining, and informative all at the same time. I was taken in by the first few pages and couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen. I wish I would have had this book when I was pregnant. It offered a light-hearted, yet real look at things that happen during pregnancy. I loved how Adriana Bourgoin showed us how a life event --- in this case, pregnancy --- can change not only relationships with friends, mothers, sisters and husbands, but also how we change and grow. In the beginning, I thought this may be a book just for those who have kids or who are pregnant. But as I read it, I got to thinking that it would be great for everyone. I remember times before I had kids that I just didn't understand what my pregnant friends were going though. I think this book is not only entertaining, but it also gives people a glimpse in to a pregnant woman's world. I really enjoyed it and will definitely tell friends about it. I look forward to her next book. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read this wonderful book!

What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
This was a perfect summer read. It was light, fun, and touching. I loved seeing the main character's growth as she moved closer to having her baby. I also loved reliving the excitement, nervousness and uncertainty of a first pregnancy.

What authors do you read?
I like a lot of authors! It's hard to pinpoint one or two. I do enjoy Alice Munro’s short stories, as well as Jennifer Crusie, Jennifer Chiaverini [Elm Creek Quilts series], Sophie Kinsella, Tracy Chevalier, Brenda Rickman Vantrease, and others.
What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
It was good. There were loads of interesting characters, and I enjoyed the humor surrounding the pregnancy. The friendship bond that was torn and brought back together near the end was, in my opinion, the most interesting part. I think the author was right on about how some girlfriends get together and bond while leaving their significant others out of some confidences. (And, about Gretchen’s fear of change --- those issues were right on.) This brought pregnant Gretchen and her husband closer.
Would you ever read a future book by Adriana Bourgoin?
Absolutely, yes.

What authors do you read?
I’m a voracious reader and I love contemporary fiction and mysteries. Some of my favorite authors are Jodi Picoult, Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Coburn, Allison Winn Scotch, Amanda Eyre Ward, Lisa Unger, and Johanna Edwards.
What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
I loved this book! It reminded me of when I was pregnant with my son. Like Gretchen, the main character of the book, I’m a planner, but you quickly learn that so much is beyond your control. Babies don’t just change the lives of their parents; they also impact their other relationships. As Gretchen discovered, babies can bring you closer to some (her mom and mother-in-law), while also putting a strain on other relationships (Louisa). Bourgoin offers readers a realistic and humorous tale of friendship, family and parenthood.
Would you ever read a future book by Adriana Bourgoin?
Definitely!

Martin, Bill Bryson, and Robert Kurson. Some authors I’ve read recently that stick out are Kim Edwards, Chris Bohjalian and Masha Hamilton.
What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
What a great book! I think it really captures what women go through when they are expecting a baby, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the issues Gretchen encounters. It brought back a lot of memories! I have already recommended it to other people.

What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
I really enjoyed this book. Adriana Bourgoin has a great sense of humor, and I really like the personality of her main character, Gretchen. She is sometimes very sarcastic (but for hillariously excellent reasons), and almost on the verge of being slighty neurotic. I think those who read this will find that they can relate really well to the storyline. All of us have experienced some or many of the situations that Gretchen finds herself in, especially the madness of being a first-time mom. It was a very good book and I highly recommend it to others. The story flowed and wasn't bogged down by too much detail. I couldn't put it down.
Would you read a future book by this author?
This is the first book I have read by Adriana Bourgoin, and I like her style of writing in this particular book, so I would definitely like to try another.

What authors do you read?
I am always trying out new authors, but some of the standards I return to are: Sue Monk Kidd, Barbara Delinsky, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Alexander McCall Smith, Khaled Hosseini, Barbara Kingsolver, Ian McEwan, Maeve Binchy, and Michelle Scott.
What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
It was not particularly entertaining. Style-wise, It seemed as though the author was trying to write in a "snappy" fashion, à la BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, but didn't quite pull it off. Further, the writing style was somewhat distracting, given excessive use of bullets and lists; long sentences containing "(a)" and "(b)" choices; and too many sentences written in parentheses. I wondered if this style was meant to support the main character's occupation,
i.e., an event planner, although this character stated several times that she wasn't good at planning.
Storywise, there were many likable characters. The author also did a good job portraying family dynamics and the physical changes experienced during pregnancy. However, the more serious pregnancy health concerns introduced by the author were not adequately discussed or handled. This is potentially disconcerting to pregnant readers --- an audience who is most likely to be attracted to the book, given its title.
Would you ever read a future book by Adriana Bourgoin?
Yes, I am always interested in an author's new attempts.

What authors do you read?
I read so many authors that I can’t begin to list them all, but here are a few of them: Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, Meg Cabot, Janet Evonovich, Stephen King, John Grisham, James Patterson, Tami Hoag, Dean Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark, and Martha Grimes.
What did you think of NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST?
I thought the characters were well developed, but the story was boring. I had to really make myself finish the book. There was no suspense to keep me reading or wondering what would happen. To me, it just seemed like the girl next door and was not very exciting.
Would you ever read a future book by Adriana Bourgoin?
No, I don’t believe I would read another book by this author when there are so many other authors I really like and would like to try.
